Jaliyah
The plane rattled lightly as it descended onto the designated runway made available specifically for our private jet
My longtime boyfriend Devon sat calmly beside me while my heart rate spiked dangerously
I always hated flying but in our line of work it was practically 90% part of the job
We were one of the top 5 arms dealers in the country except we were the only ones who were willing to trade for drugs instead of money
Other countries always had that grade A shit that people killed for so the trade was a win win for everyone.
I didn't necessarily want this life. But it was all i knew. I was given up at birth and raised within the system. Shuffled from home to home having to fight off perverted old men and their wandering attentions, fighting jealous bitches in the streets all while stealing for food and necessities, hardened me into a no bullshit kind of woman
All i cared about was survival and money
I knew as long as i had both i would never be at the mercy of another person again
I met Devon when i was just 16, outside of a corner deli. He was snatching up one of his workers for disobedience and i was stealing my dinner for the night
He was the most handsome chocolate man i had ever seen before. All tall, all muscular, and definitely all man
The dominance radiated off him in waves
He was the one to take me off the streets, out of the system and teach me how to get money
I was eternally grateful for him. Other than my best friend Jenni I owed him everything. Unfortunately that was all i felt for him. Not much more.
I knew he felt the same. we lived together and occasionally had sex and everyone knew i was his woman, but there was no affection ,cuddling loving none of that
We were like roommates with benefits and he often slept with other women, but i was cool with that. Our relationship was built on fondness and respect
He knew id have his back to the death and i knew the same. That kind of loyalty in our line of work was almost impossible and that was why i stayed with him
Who needed love anyway. From what i saw it did nothing but make you stupid and get you caught up
I had seen many females in our hood over the years get stuck with multiple babies while the daddy moved on with the next chick, leaving her and the kids forgotten. Some ended up behind bars doing time for fighting and riding for a nigga who wasn't riding for her
Shit was crazy out in the streets.
Devon and I did not have to worry about that type of shit with one another
I was thankful for that 100%
The only other person i trusted with my life was my best friend Jenni. She was a half white /half Indian chick that i had met in the system. She too was tried of that life and when we met we just clicked. She was as hood as any black chick and that's why i fucked with her. So when i met Devon and he showed me the hustle i of course brought her along with me
Stepping off the plane we both tossed our duffle bags into the trunk and jumped inside the waiting car before speeding off to meet with our client
We did trips like this nearly twice a month. But in different counites. we almost never lingered either. We were in and out and back home. Devon believed it lessened our chances of getting caught up
"This is business not a vacation" he would often say whenever i would ask to stay and sight see. but that was when i was still young and fresh. Now i hardly noticed the beautiful surrounding and honestly no longer cared to
To kill time we often sent Jenni with Devon's right hand man Trent to another country with another drop-off
they were headed to Italy while we were in Africa
However as we were riding to the drop-off something seemed off
For the first time in all the years we had been doing this, I I felt a heavy sense of foreboding wash over me. Apparently Devon felt it too because he speared me with a look and we both pulled out our guns that we always stayed strapped with
Suddenly the drivers route changed and we already knew what was happening. Someone was trying to body us for our shit
The big question was...who?
The most obvious conclusion was our African client Rashad but we couldn't be too sure
Abruptly the car stopped in a deserted location with miles of forest enclosing us on all sides. Once the driver slowed Devon fired a shot through his skull, splattering him all over the windshield
Just then a barrage of bullets hailed on the car from my side. Davon quickly grabbed my hand opened his car door and pulled me with him as we shot at the men and charged for the forest. We let of shots until we were safely in the density of the forest
The we split up and attempted to take them down one by one
But so far we had only managed to kill 6 of them and more had started to arrive
It was a full on ambush
Devon and I shared a glance as I stared into the forest ahead. it was barely dawn and a thick heavy fog was slowly creeping ominously over the grass. Maybe we could get lost in it and come back out when they had given up
"COME OUT NOW AND WE WONT KILL YOU!" a man shouted his accent was off though definitely not African. Someone hired these men
"FUCK YOU!!" Devon shouted back
Laughter erupted at his words
"NO THANKS!!! WE DONT FUCK MONKEYS. BESIDES YOUR PARTNER ALREADY DOES THAT ENOUGH FOR ME! BY THE WAY, JENNI SENDS HER REGARDS!!! He shouted cackling, before they once again let off endless rounds at us
JENNI THAT BACKSTABBING BITCH! i thought fuming
I shook away the raging murderous thoughts for the moment though, we were out of bullets and had to get out of here or we were dead
"DEVON LETS GO!" i Yelled over the deafening gunfire as I pointed deeper into the forest; into the fog
He looked hesitant and i knew he was pissed. Devon was a fighter.
he never backed down from a fight.be it gun, knife or fists., and the fact that he might have to right now probably made him fell less than a man
But there was at time to fight and a time to live to fight....another day
He nodded at me and together we charged ahead into the growing fog..................
Decided against a prologue for this story. this chapter was A little backstory about our girl
