I'm taken aback by his words. Mum and Dad alive? This can't be possible. He must be lying to me. But I need to know.
"What room?" I ask.
"Here's a map of the place. This is where we are now, room 4G, they are in here, room 9M." Caleb replies. "You can't break out just yet, though. I'll find a way to get the keys of the guards and let you out. It may take some time. I sigh. I have to wait. I hate waiting.
"We should get some sleep." Tobias says.
"Um... how are we going to do this? There are only two beds. I can sleep on the floor if you want." Caleb suggests.
"No need to." I reply. I walk with Tobias over to one of the beds and slide under the covers with him. Caleb looks upset at this but doesn't say anything about it. He just goes to the other bed and crawls under the blanket. Tobias protectively places his hand on my hip. I rest my head on his chest.
"I'm watching you two!" Caleb says.
"We're not stupid enough to do anything while you're here!" I reply.
I drop my voice to a whisper, so only Tobias can hear.
"Do you belive him? That he's telling the truth about Mum and Dad being alive?" I ask.
"I honestly have no idea. I don't trust him, but It's not really something you'd lie about. Whether or not he is the worst brother in the world, they were his parents." Tobias answers.
"I love you, thanks for sticking up for me." I whisper.
"No problem, and I love too."
I take one last look into his beautiful, deep blue eyes before I fall asleep. No matter where we are, in this hellhole or back home, I feel safe because of his arms wrapped around me.
---------------
I wake and notice Tobias is gone. So's Caleb. I slowly get out of bed and go to look in the small bathroom. They are not there either. I start to panic. I walk toward the door and notice its unlocked. I creek it open. The hallways are empty. I run down the hall and open the door at the end of it. I now find myself in an open field. Standing about 15 meters away is Tobias. He's tied to a post. There is a man pointing a gun to his head.
"Tris!" He yells. I want to run toward him but all of a sudden I can't move. The gunman clicks the bullet into it's chamber, ready to fire.
"Tobias!" I scream and start to cry. My vision is blurry with tears but I see something unusual. He's eyes are no longer a deep blue, they are green.
"This is a simulation." I say.
The gun goes off. I wake on a metal table, violently shaking and sobbing. I pull my knees to my chest and rock back and forth. I look over to see Jeanine looking really angry. More importantly I look over to see Tobias struggling against guards that are holding him back. He stops when he sees me looking up at me.
"Let me go!" He demands. They obey. He runs over to me and throws his arms around me. I hug him back and cry into his shoulder.
"Tris, what happened?" He asks me, stroking my hair.
"I-I had t-to watch y-y-you d-die." I stutter, still crying.
"How could you tell it was a simulation?!" Jeanine asks, angry. "I was sure I got everything right!" I just shake my head.
"How?! Tell us or we could find so many different ways to torture you!" She yells. I wipe my tears away.
"His eyes." I say.
"What about his eyes?" She asks curious.
"They were green. Tobias's eyes are deep blue." I explain. She grunts.
"Alright, off you go." She waves us away. We're dragged off back to our room and thrown to the floor, again. I jump up and wrap my Tobias's neck.
"Hey, hey, it's ok, it'll be ok." He says trying to calm me.
"I love you." I tell him.
"I love you too." He says as he presses his lips to mine. We stay that way for a while. I pull away when the door swings open, Caleb standing in the door way.
"I almost got the keys! I was so close! Don't worry I'll get them tomorrow, I promise!" Caleb says frustrated. Tobias sighs.
"Does that mean another day in this hellhole?"
"I'm afriad so." Caleb replies. "What happened in there anyway? What did you see?" I sigh.
"I woke up and I couldn't find you anywhere. I found myself in this open field. Tobias was there. Someone shot him and killed him and I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't move." I start to tear up again. I turn to Tobias. "I had to watch you die and I couldn't help you." Tobias pulls me into a hug. I'm crying again.
"You'll never lose me, Tris." He says, not caring if Caleb hears.
"Promise me you'll never leave me?" I ask.
"I could never leave you, I love you too much." He pulls away smiling.
"I love you too."
"Um...I'm still here you know." Caleb says interupting our moment.
"Unfortunatley." I say. Tobias laughs.
"Lets go to sleep." Tobias suggest. I nod and walk over to the bed and crawl beneath the covers. Tobias follows.
"Goodnight Tris."
"Goodnight Tobias."
With that I fall in to a nightmare-filled sleep.
