Prologue

It was late night, gunfire sounded out as rain poured from the blackened clouds above. In a dark alleyway, we see a young, purple-haired girl crying.

She's currently covering her ears as tears roll down her cheeks. Her dress is dirty and she's shivering as lights pass overhead. Suddenly, she heard an odd noise enter her concealed ears; The sound seemed to be the howl of a wolf, majestic and mysterious.

Fear gripped her heart like a vice as she sprinted out of the alleyway and toward a building across the street. Her trip was cut short after a bullet entered her shoulder, the initial shock causing her to trip and shout. The girl whimpered in pain as blood seeped from the fresh wound.

The one responsible for the shot was about to finish the job before a blade tore through his chest.

"Never take your eyes off the opponent, that's day one of the battlefield," an unidentified male said.

A second volley of gunfire rang out, soon followed by the cries of multiple men and women. Within seconds, the loud noise became eerie silence as the male from before moved across the street. The rain calmed down a little, turning to a light drizzle as the sound of boots touching the ground got closer and closer to the little girl.

The rain stopped hitting her, causing her to look up and see a blue-haired man kneeling above her. On his back was a black cape that was currently covering her; The male grimaced sadly at the state of the girl and gently wrapped her up in his arms, being mindful of her wound.

The little girl began to feel sleepy, her eyes fighting her to close. The man was very warm and the fabric of his clothing was soft and cozy. She burrowed into the adult's chest and closed her eyes as he carried her off.

"Go on, get some rest, you must be scared out of your little mind," the man said.

The girl woke up with a wet cloth on her forehead and bandages on her shoulder. As soon as her eyes made contact with the bandages, a searing pain encompassed her arm. She whimpered and writhed as a feeling of being lit aflame took over her appendage.

The man from before walked in and came over to her almost immediately. He kneeled down next to her and tried to shush her,

"Hey hey, it's okay, it'll sting for a little while but it'll feel better eventually, just breathe and don't focus on it," he said.

The man took the cloth off her forehead and spoke once more:

"Now that you're awake, I want you to stay here while I go get you some food and your clothes".

"Wait, I'm naked!?" the girl asked.

"Oh no, don't worry, I made sure to leave your underwear on you and put a shirt over you, you're good," he said.

He walked out, leaving the girl alone with her thoughts. She pulled the covers down and looked at herself, seeing that the man was telling the truth.

He came back in after a couple of minutes with a pile of clothes in one hand and a plate of food in the other. The man set the plate on the girl's lap and set the clothes next to her.

"If you need anything else, just call for me, I'll be downstairs," he said as he walked toward the door.

The girl got up and slowly dressed herself, being careful not to upset her wounded shoulder. She eventually finished and looked to the plate of food, her stomach rumbling as she did so.
