Jordan has always strive to be as good as a person can be ever since she was young. That is by helping those who are in need or offer to tutor those who are weak in studies or even defending the weaklings from school bullies.
One day, she had to pi...
Last night, my instincts refused to let me have proper sleep with guests staying in the castle. I internally want to scream in frustration because I can literally hear every movement the guards are making when patrolling more frequently. No doubt that all the Royal Guards will be alert for the next few days especially since Sunny's recent attempt assassination.
Unlike yesterday, Sunny is tasked to entertain the Morettis while Luna has the pleasure of greeting other guests of less importance. The three young royals are already stuffing themselves in the breakfast feast alone in the dining hall when Sunny and I join them.
"So what's the plan for today?" Leonardo asks unintelligibly, chewing on a peace of bread. The girls present including a few discrete maids wrinkle their noses at the pieces of food flying out.
"Swallow before you speak, brother," Elena scolds in disgust.
Mikael also shoots Leonardo a disgusting look whereas Geronimo looks embarassed on behalf of his family. Sunny pretends to ignore them but address the question.
"Well, I'm tasked to accompany you four until lunch, then the maids will prep you for the Ball. In the meantime, what do you guys want to do?" Sunny asks, sipping onto her coffee.
After an hour of arguing between the Moretti royals, the girls settle with exploring the vast garden while the guys ride on their horses. The palace Animus volunteers to bring the princes to their hunting grounds. Mikael prefer to use his wings and fly overhead to ensure the safety of his prince. Once the rowdy guys are gone, Sunny shows Elena the native flowers by wielding the earth to grow.
"Woah," Elena says in amazement when a previously empty field is covered with yellow flowers. Bees and other insects decide, prompting my instincts to act more like a housecat than a wildcat.
I first sniff a close flower, sneezing loudly at the pollen. A butterfly flies to my nose and I gently swat it off. My instincts lost control and I start to pounce around the field while hiding under the patches.
"This is my first time seeing Jordan playing," Elena comments, eyeing me happily.
I look at Sunny as she gives me a nod of encouragement. She also grins happily at my playfulness. It's not easy to be playful when Sunny is surrounded by strangers. I have no idea why, but my instincts don't mind Elena enough for me to drop my guard.
The evil butterfly seems to mock me by avoiding my claws. It is challenging me.
"Yeah, I'm glad," Sunny replies softly. "Guardians here are treated like silent guards... No one is supposed to acknowledge or distract them from their duties. It would be fine if Jordan was trained for this, but I know it's tough for her. I cannot imagine not being able to communicate with anyone for weeks, let alone no one giving attention."
"She can't communicate?" Elena asks in surprise, sitting on the ground next to Sunny. Both of them watching me trying hard to capture the butterfly.
Sunny sighs. "Terra Guardians can't communicate with anyone for the first few weeks while their instincts settles in and bodies learn the art of shifting. There are times that they change into vulnerable forms and that's when their Handlers are supposed to be their protectors. Until she matures, her instincts are like ducklings, following whoever is caring for her."
"So Jordan's current panther form is not of her choice? Why is the Ball happening when you're a target and your Guardian is not at full capability? Isn't this risky?"
My best friend shrugs. "It is not my decision to host the Ball. It is the only way to settle the Council. Besides, not everyone knows that fact about Terra Guardians so I'd appreciate it if you keep it to yourself."
"Why did you tell me then?"
I finally catch the villainous butterfly and proudly bring it to Sunny. Sunny chuckles at my offering and scratches my ears in approval. Purrs start to burst out of my chest.
"There's something about you... I trust you," Sunny simply says.
Elena looks baffled at Sunny's statement but don't respond. The two girls contently sit in silence while watching a panther act like a kitten once again.

Sunny isn't in a great mood by the time the Ball is starting. First off, she was forced to put on a traditional Earth Kingdom dress. Her mother barge into her room with the clothing the moment she was done with her bath and order her to put it on. 3 maids had to help the my best friend because the dress involves a corset that shows off her curves.
I can tell that Sunny is not comfortable in it, yet there's nothing anyone can do about it when the Queen has her mind on it. The Queen also brings in an Animus stylist to put on Sunny's makeup. By the time the first guest has arrived, I can see the famous Versatile Princess, Sunderlette Van Der Werstein. Her tiara is the last accessory before her mother shoos her to greet the incoming guest.
Her father shoots her a wide grin when he sees her. The King is dressed in a white button-up shirt, oddly-shaped blazer, a green tie and dark green kilt. He looks like a typical Scottish man in that outfit.
"You look beautiful, daughter," the King compliments, offering her his arm.
Sunny accepts and thanks him.
Yousef and I trail behind the royals, keeping an eye out for any signs of danger. Yousef and Talia had been training me on my tasks during the Ball for the last few weeks, which isn't much. If things start to get out of hand and Sunny is physically in trouble, I have the right to do what my instincts tell me to do.
The first carriage arrives and out comes a black-haired lad in a blue kilt with a white rose in his pocket.
