What is love?
This is got to be the most cliche starter of a story that you would ever read in your life.
Well, who can we blame really?
It is the most cliche things that stick with us until we grow older.
It is the things that serve as the base line of every possibility.
What is love?
That same question is the same question that we often get asked when we were just kids, well, for us girls specifically, I guess?
It is the question written in that small glittery slam book that the one cool girl in your class has.
It is the question in an essay in every english class when valentine's day is about to come.
We grew up with this idea of love between two person.
In every romantic films, books, series.. we see every little thing about love.
It taught us how it happens.
It taught us why it happens.
Like how Noah waited for Allie to come back home in the Notebook.
Like how Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky end up falling for each other after their silly deal.
Like every disney princess movies where they fall in love with their prince charmings.
The cliches in every single fictional story is our baseline in our own stories.
It taught me everything that I should know.
At least, that's what I thought.
What is love really?
Love for me is his name.
Chancellor Jocson
His name that makes my heart beat faster when I hear it.
It is the sound that it creates when I say it.
My Chance..
Chancellor Jocson was the new kid in town back in middle school. Like me, he had no friends.
I guess that was the reason why we got very close.
However, unlike me, Chance knows his was with people. He's very friendly, nice, outspoken and he is pretty attractive to be frank. He got pretty popular in school but he never left my side.
Being with him changed my life drastically.
He was like the knight in shining armor who saved this damsel in distress.
For me, what we had was special.
It was that moment in every movie where you contemplate a lot if he was just being nice or he feels the same way.
Every time I look at him, it was like that quiet moment where the camera just focuses on how beautiful his smile is while he's enjoying his conversation with his friends.
And then, my cliche happened.
In that one party before senior year..
He asked me out.
It was a cliche.
He is my cliche.
His name is the epitome of the love that I've ever known in my life.
His name is the heart string that is attached to my life.
That's the idea that I instilled in my brain for a very long time.
For 2 years, actually.
But that idea vanished in less than a second that one night before summer break started.
That day was awfully alright.
It was a nice day.
It was a beautiful day.
The sky was clear, the wind was warm.
It was a perfect day.
But when the night came..
What I had known as the perfect.. was immediately destroyed.
By that one phrase I never expected to hear from the person whose name was the music to my ears.
I never expected that such art could create such an agonizing sound.
Right..
This was the cliche part of the story that I've never really given any thought.
How Hazel Grace dealt with losing Augustus in The Fault in Our Stars.
How Landon Carter lived his life after Jamie lost her battle in A Walk to Remember.
How Quentin was able to turn his back on Margo and move on when she made her decision to do what she wants.
These are the things I never learned.
These are the things that I don't want to learn.
But that one night before summer break..
When the temperature was just right..
When the moment was perfect..
Our love story ended.
