It was the first day of winter break from UCLA.
I have never been more excited to take a break from there and get some time to myself. I started off by picking up my morning starbucks."Hey y/n! The usual?" The Barista asked me.
"Yup! Make it a venti" I responded while smiling brightly. I come to this Starbucks every day. They know who I am, plus I get the same drink every time. Iced blonde vanilla latte. Can't go wrong with iced coffee!
Not long after I ordered my name was called. I walked over to the counter and picked up my drink. I poked a straw through the lid of the cup and thanked the barista for making my drink as I started walking to the door.
I was probably two feet from the door when someone opened it quickly and bashed into me, my coffee flying out of my hands as well as my phone and keys.
I barely managed to stay on my feet and crash onto the Starbucks floor. I realize my drink was no longer in my hand. When I looked on the floor sure enough my drink had spilled all over everywhere.
"Oh my god! I am so sorry!" Someone called to me. His voice was deep almost dark sounding. I looked up and saw a fairly tall man.
He had dark brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing black skinny jeans with a black t-shirt. Honestly he was kind of attractive...
"No um... it's okay. I should have seen you coming." I responded not really knowing what to say.
"Here. What did you order? I'll buy you another one. I'm really sorry." He offered pulling out his wallet from his back pocket.
"No no no! You really don't have to do that. It's no big deal I promise!" I said as I grabbed some napkins from the counter.
When I looked at him again he had picked up the spilled cup and was reading my order. Before I could object he walked up to the counter.
Of course I wanted another coffee... so I just didn't do anything. I wiped up all the coffee I could from the floor and tossed the napkins in the trash.
It felt like this was all happening so quickly. The man came back with a fresh coffee for me.
"Thank you so much. You really didn't have to do that." I said taking the coffee from his hand. He had bought a hot coffee.
"No I wanted to! Again I'm really sorry." He mumbled.
"Don't worry about it." I said as I smiled. I watched the embarrassment leave his face as he put on a smile.
"Hey I've gotta get going. But maybe I'll see you around?" He said starting to walk to the door.
"Yeah! I've gotta go too. It was nice talking to you. Thank you for the coffee!"
He nodded and smiled and started jogging to his car.
I smiled to myself and took a sip of my coffee. Damn... it tasted way better when it came from someone else.
As I was walking to my car I noticed something written on my cup.
I looked at the writing and realized it was a phone number. I smiled and laughed to myself as I hopped into my car.
I drove into the parking garage of my apartment building. I always hated it down here. It was really dark and almost half of the lights didn't work. I pretty much sprint to the elevator half the time to avoid interaction with anyone who could be down there.
Once I got into my apartment I stared at the number on my cup. I had already finished my coffee... but I found myself just reading the number, Over and over again. Should I text it?
I decided I would. I pulled out my phone and opened iMessage. I typed in the number and wrote something. I hesitated...
What if this was a joke... or a dare of some kind...
I thought to myself, continuing to read the phone number again. Without thinking I pressed send.
Holy shit- holy shit- holyyyy shit!
I just sent that.
I stared at my phone for at least 5 minutes. Waiting. Waiting for something to appear.
Nothing.
I decided not to just sit here and wait for him to text back. I turned on the tv and started watching project runway.
I was almost halfway through the second episode of season 14 when my phone vibrated.
I quickly paused the tv and picked up my phone.
It was him!
He was active now so I texted back. He texted back right away. We started having a conversation!
Y/n: Hey! ☕️
Unknown: Hey! You're the girl from Starbucks right?
Y/n: Yeah! That's me. My name is y/n.
Colby: Nice to meet you y/n. I'm Colby.
Y/n: It's nice to meet you too Colby.
Colby: How was your coffee? ;)
Y/n: amazing! Thank you again for that. You sure you don't want me to Venmo you?
Colby: absolutely not. I ran into you! It was the least I could do.
Colby: So... I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime? Nothing crazy or anything. I just thought maybe we could go out to lunch and get to know each other?
Y/n: that sounds great! What we're you thinking?"
Colby: I was thinking maybe pizza? There's a really great pizza place near my house. How about tomorrow at 1:30? We can meet there!
Y/n: that sounds wonderful! I just started spring break so I don't have anything planned 😅
Colby: Oh really? Where do you go to school?
Y/n: UCLA! It's my third year.
Me and Colby texted for hours. I found out he was a YouTuber and I looked up his YouTube channel. He had tons of subscribers. This all felt like some crazy dream.
I was never huge on social media. I had accounts for everything but hardly ever posted or did anything with them. I've been really caught up in my homework.
That night I planned out what I was gonna wear the next day. I wanted to make sure I looked good. He saw me today wearing no makeup and in sweats. I wanted to impress him!
All night I was lying awake, so excited about tomorrow. I hadn't been on a date with someone since high school!
What if I fuck this up? I can't ruin this chance for me... what if he was really some creepy perv who just wanted to get into my pants!?
The more I thought about it the less worried I got. He offered the safest way to have a date.
A public place in mid day! Besides he didn't offer to pick me up. I'm driving myself. How could he be a creepy pervert? He is so sweet and famous!
I think it's gonna be fine.
I think it's gonna be fine.
