Awe washed over us. This man was a certified ruthless killer. But why was he after our family? What did he want?

I called Myles later that night.
"Myles?"
"Huh?" He replied sleepily. I couldn't help but giggle.
"Did you call just to disturb my sleep?"
"Yep... you know me too well."
"Hey, your brother seemed pretty disturbed tonight, know why?"
"Probably because the same people who attacked my family 12 years ago, killing my baby brother in the process, approached us tonight at the car park."
"What?! I hope no one was hurt."
"No, Shane was there."
"Oh..." I noticed a trace of hurt in his voice so I quickly added.
"... Cleopas was there too. Dad and Jayson were also fully armed."
"Thank God."
"Hold it... you don't seem to be surprised about Jayson having a gun in his possession. You knew about it, didn't you?"
"....."
"Myles!"
"Easy... you'll hurt my eardrums."
"I can't believe you didn't tell me."
"Would telling you that I joined him for shooting lessons make matters worse?"
"MYLES!!!"
"My cue to leave, bye buddy."

I can't believe he hang up. I can't deal with this now. He's so gonna get it from me tomorrow. Time for my true love- my bed.

The next day's breakfast was so dead silent. Mum didn't join us.
I took my seat and quietly looked through my options. Father was already seated. A glass of mango juice and some eggs and pancakes will have to do.
Jayla and Jason joined us shortly. We ate in silence.

After breakfast we all remained seated, anticipating the long awaited explanation for all that was going on.

After what seemed like forever, dad spoke up.
"Kids, we need to talk."

Oh yes, we do.
