6 MONTHS TO THE PRESENT DAY...

[ HENRY'S POV ]

'So, when did you move to Dystopia? I assumed you would be off to Uni by now,' as Blake talks, I feel myself holding back a laugh. Uni, yeah right, with my credits defiantly. 'You don't really get that sort of thing here - it feels like people come here to die.'

He makes a wide gesture to the people around us at a dingy corner café with stringy lights and very bad décor. It has that classic stench of death and despair to it, even the coffee I'm drinking has that vibe. I gingerly sip it causing the brunette to laugh.

'Gross, isn't it?'

I swallow and grimace, which leads him to laughing again. Clearly my answer was well received.

'I moved with two of my friends, as a kinda of an involuntary gap year.'

'I get how that feels - my dad moved our entire family here around two years ago. Had to break up with Bianca and leave everything behind. Slight downgrade to Swellview.' I pause, it totally escaped my mind that he was cute Blake. I mean Blake, the guy who was Bianca's boyfriend. Like the reason we broke up, surely he didn't just completely skip over that part.

'Shit sorry, you two dated, didn't you?'

'Yeah, something like that.'

'Damn, I'm such an idiot sometimes. I didn't want this to be weird and now it feels like I ruined it. I t just feels so nice to talk to someone that I had a past with, I guess anyway.'

He shrugs and sips his drink, as if what he just said wasn't a big deal. I'm never lost for words but know I'm just  annoyed. I want to hate this guy for dating Bianca but I can't - he said sorry, it just feels wrong if I do. Not after he sounded genuinely sincere. No, I can't be annoyed.

'No big deal - I mean, feelings change. I don't feel that way towards her anymore. It's been too long.'

'She was kind of a bitch as well,' Blake adds in, smirking wildly.

'Yeah I guess she was. Do you remember the three metre rule?'

'Oh god, that was the worst. Like that's messed up!' He smile as he talks before taking a long sip of his drink, clearly pleased at my response. There's something too normal about him, something that makes me uncomfortable. How can someone so normal live in a place like this? Or know someone who has a life like mine? He's too chill, too non offended, nothing like my 15 year old self would have thought of him back then.

'Feelings do change, way too easily. Sometimes I wish they never did.'

I meet his gaze and quickly finish the rest of my cold beverage.

'So what do you do around here for fun?'

'Other than get drunk?'

'Other than that, yes.' His eyes slowly drift away from me over to the commotion outside the window, pondering on the question.

'You're clearly a fan of the risky life, follow  me,' he throws down the cash on the table, grabs his jacket and races towards the door.

'Hen, you coming, right?'

I pause, nod and follow him out.
