My name is Jason Richards. I’m 18 but I’ll be 19 soon enough. I live in Territory 9 or T9. I’m starting this journal to record everything I’m about to undertake. It will serve as account of the events that may occur over the next few months. I give whoever finds this journal the duty to keep it safe so that it can serve as a record of what I might achieve, but I realise there’s a very strong possibility I won’t achieve anything. I can only hope, for hope is all I have left.

I read over what I have written. I thought it might be a little too formal but decide that if it was to serve as a record it might as well sound official. I hold the hologram generator in my hands. It was a gift from my parents. I remember how my dad would always say how back in his day they had to cope without all the fancy technology. And that stuff like holographic computer screens was only for Science Fiction movies.

“Shut down” I command. The holographic screen flickers and vanishes at the sound of my voice. I shove the hologram generator in my back pocket and my hands start to shake. I check the time. My eyes scan the area in front of me. I check over my shoulder to ease my paranoia. Deep breath. Mind alert. Heart quickens. Is this the end or the beginning?  I think to myself as I step through the iron gates.
