Chapter one
Selection
Above the Earth, passing by a satellite, comes a bright light an orb of bright brilliant light heading towards the earth at speeds out of this world as it approaches the atmosphere its breaks up in tiny little specks of dust.
Suddenly there is a huge car crash, many cars in the freeway all smashed into each other. It is unclear what has caused the accident, but it is clear this is a bad one. Fire and explosions everywhere fill the night sky with smoke and orange light. Police and paramedics come rushing the scene where they are met by the sound of women screaming and babies crying is all they can be hear all around. It is the most devastating event you have ever seen.
The paramedics arrive and start dealing with the casualties, caos is everywere, a man is hanging out of a car, he is not in a good way. His legs are broken, his head has blood pouring from all over so much so he is almost unrecognisable. He is so badly injured the fire crews have to come and cut him free from the wreckage to work on him. By the look of his wounds he would be lucky to survive and even if he hid he would be more than just brain dead he would paralysed as well!.
Once in the hospital doctors are heard talking about the patient who is laying silently in a hospital bed infront of them. He has bandages and plasters covering his body and face, drips, electrical cables attached to monitoring equipment they are heard saying.
“This patient I am afraid has no chance of survival. His brain has suffered major trauma, with a huge hammerage blow to the head causing blood to cover the brain, he has a fractured hip, one collapsed lung, a fractured eye socket to the left lobe, his jaw is broken in two places and both his legs have suffered two clean breaks all in all gentleman this man is practically dead!”.
“Whats the patiants name Sir?” Asks one of the nurses
“Its er?”. the Dr examining the notes
“Erm a Mr Robert Caragan”. Poor fellow,
“Do we know what caused the accident yet Dr?” another nurse asks,
“No they are still looking into it, it such a tragedy, this poor man is the worst so I have been told?. We will see how he goes over night and then if there is no signs of repair we will turn the life support off”. the Dr suggests while walking with the team to another patient.
Later that night, as the hospital becomes quiet and the staff change to graveyard service. Robert is in an intensive care room, suddenly, a twitch from Roberts left eye then his second eye fast eye movements take over his face. Left then right, like some sort of spasm or fit?, suddenly his body becomes all ridged like he is having seizure of some sorts, the alarms start going off as if he has flat-lined.
The nurses come running over to the him. Just as they approach the room, the though the door slams shut on them, they cannot open it. They try and try but it seems to be jammed, then the lights start flickering around the whole ward a bulb smashes above them raining shattered glass over the floor.
The nurses call for back up to get into the room but they cant budge the door, they are left to just look in at Roberts body shaking and jerking around the bed helpless to do anything they must just watch. Then from Roberts chest a small but bright strand of orange glow comes out and then another until from the centre of his chest is a hundred strands coving the whole of his body as if wrapping him in a golden blanket of light a gold dust.
His body calms the shaking stops and soon he is at peace. The lighst come back on and the glow vanishes the door opens and the nurses run to Roberts aid. He is still unconscious but the machines all go back to normal as if nothing had happened in the first place.
Just then security arrive to help after being called earlier, the only people that saw what had just taken place was the three nurses, they all looked at each other with confusion in their eyes as of to say how could we explain what had just happened? Who would believe them?.
Robert was still where he was when the doctors left his side, the machines are showing no signs of abnormalities, its as if it was a pure imaginary event. All three of the nurses look at one and other and walk back to the desk apologising to the security guards by suggesting there must have been power surge that blew the bulbs, as they had no other explanation.
But what they didn’t know was Robert was going through a change,a cange like no human has ever experianced, kind of like a butterfly from a caterpillar.
The following morning the Drs come round to examine Robert, but what they find they cant explain?
“I cant believe it? Can this.... Nurse!, I want this man taken down to MRI, I don’t understand?”. Scratching his head and staring at the notes?
Once in the scanner the team are speechless staring at the computer screen where the results of the scan are being projected.
“What do you make of it?” The Dr asks the specialist?
I'm not sure what to say Sir, I have never seen this before what on earth has happened to him?” all looking at the screen.
“It would seem as though this man is the same man we saw last night its impossible this man has none of the injuries has somebody swapped this man's notes?”
“No, he is the very same man” the nurse explains?
But its impossible know body could have recovered like this its just it just cant happen”. The Dr muddling his words with all the confusion of what he was seeing.
They take him back up to the ward remove all the pipes drips and tubes. They start to remove the plasters and band aids to uncover unblemished skin no sign of any injuries no scaring nothing he soon wakes up while they are doing it, He is panicked until he realises he is in the hospital the nurses look at him with confusion,
“Nurse where am I?” she says
“What why am I ok?” yes you are more than ok you are totally fit and healthy though how and why we are not sure?”
“Pardon? What do you mean?” Robert requests still confused to where and why he was in the hospital let alone being told he is fine.
“Well you were in a very nasty accident”
“Yes I remember the crash then it all goes blank?”
You were worst to come out of the accident you would have died and we were about to switch off the life support machine this morning!.
Pardon I don’t understand you just said I am fit and healthy? How could I be on deaths door?
“We don’t know you tell us?. We cant quite get our heads round it either”, she snaps at him.
Hear look at these!. She hands his some photos,
“Taken of you last night they are police photos for evidence and it helps us to treat patients by seeing what state they were in when they were found?”.
Robert look over the photos in shock of the state he was in touching himself in each spot where there was a visible injury he quickly pulls back the covers to revile his legs and make sure they are still on him and working.
“But how could this be how come I am here now with no injures?”
We have no answers for you Mr Caragan, but because you are fit and healthy we have no choice but to discharge you, as odd as it is to you it as much to us.
Robert gathers his things his cloths all blood stained and leaves the hospital.
