Chapter 5
The Weakness
Arriving at Tanner's house was a little awkward. I hadn't talked to him since the night of the homecoming game. Finn did all the talking which made me feel a little better. But I knew something was wrong with Finn...
"Here," Tanner said handing it to Finn, "Watch it before Pete sees it...It's a bit shocking." I nodded slightly.
"Why haven't you been around, Tanner?" I asked as Finn turned away.
"Get out of here, Vivian," Tanner snickered.
"No, she's right...Pete asked about you a lot," Finn gritted his teeth, "But he finally gave up."
"Things change," Tanner whispered leaning against the wall like he didn't have a care in the world.
"Don't be an ass," I huffed turning away.
"Look," Tanner yelled grabbing my arm, "Maybe I just don't want to see him okay?!"
"Get your hands off her," Finn said. I saw his fists balling up...The next thing I knew Tanner was on the ground, blood was on the floor.
"Finn," I whispered looking at his now bloody knuckles.
"Let's go, Viv," Finn stated grabbing the video. I followed closely behind my hero.
"What's wrong?" I asked getting in the car.
"Viv," he snarled. I had never seen him so angry.
"What's wrong?" I asked again. I could tell he was getting angry.
"There's one thing I never told you about me," he sighed angrily. The car flew as he sped down the street.
"My parents are dead," he huffed. I always figured they were out of the picture. He never mentioned them once...
"I'm sorry, Finn," I whispered, "When did they die?"
"Three years ago, today..." he trailed off. He hit his hands against the steering wheel as he began crying.
"It's okay..." I tried to console him, but it didn't seem like it was helping.
"No!" He screamed so loud. The car stopped in the middle of the road.
"Finn!" I tried yelling over his screaming but all he kept yelling was NO! I grabbed his head in my hands and had him look at me. He was crying so much, it was awful...I had never seen him like this.
"shhh..." I whispered putting his head on my shoulder. We stayed like that for a long time...For the first time Finn was weak. He wasn't the strong tough guy everyone saw him as.
"Viv," he sniffled. I looked up and stared at him, "Thank you..." I nodded slowly. Finn suddenly leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. I felt myself blushing as I wiped a tear from his perfect face....
"Let's go home," Finn cleared himself. I can't believe that Finn was so willing to show me his weakness...His devastation for loss. I wonder what he was feeling when he though Pete was dead...
I wonder how his parents passed away. Finn was probably scared, just like he was with Pete. It was scary...Death...and Finn had seen it before. That was his weakness...but then again, isn't that everyone's weakness...?
