The base from the speakers could be heard pouring out of the house as i stood outside. The cheers of my intoxicated future classmates could be heard for miles on the small street, although they seemed more distant the longer i stood on the sidewalk. Earlier my roommate told me about a house party taking place only blocks away. She suggested that it would be a good way to get out of my comfort zone and get me excited for the semester. It seemed like a good idea before, however, now that I was here i was regretting my decision.
"Come one this is gonna be fun" i thought to herself as I stood sheepishly on the sidewalk.
"This is your freshman year. Let loose. Your an adult now" i thought once more as the sounds around me faded.
"You should have fun now before your swamped with work" i muttered to myself as I took a few steps away from the house. I considered going inside before letting out a sigh and beginning the walk home. The streets were silent as I walked. The only sound that could be heard was the faint humming of street lights. The longer it walked in silence the more my mind wondered.
"You should have went in. You could be making new friends" I thought to myself as i began to walk faster. This caused more unwanted thoughts.
"You can't stay in your shell forever" I heard as I picked up the pace. No matter how fast I ran, I could not outrun my own thoughts. I ran faster as my mind was filled with more negative thoughts of what could have been. Thankfully I had finally made it home. I walked inside and let out a sigh of relief.
"Hay, your back early?" my roommate asked as she walked past the door and into the living room.
"Hay jazz. Yah I changed my mind. I'm actually pretty tired" I said as she began to walk towards my room. Jazz gave me and unsure look but decided not to press the matter further. I walked into her room and plopped down on my bed thinking about all the ways the night could have turned out.
"What a pain" i groans as i take out my headphones and put her playlist on shuffle. I began to relax as the music blocked out any doubts about that night.
"Better luck next time" i said to myself with a smile as the music washes over me.
