Chapter Eleven
"FATHER?" ARIA CALLED out frantically as she ran into his classroom, waving her hand around to get rid of the lingering yellow smoke.
Fred and George weren't far behind, but instead of racing to the scene of the crime as Aria had, they chose to stroll idiotically, laughing as they did so.
Aria continued to search the classroom, finally locating her father (or what she assumed was her father) on his desk. Small and fluffy, yellow in color, and even in bird form, she could see the scowl on his face.
Aria began to frown as well as the twins ambled into the classroom. She folded her arms angrily. "What am I supposed to do about this? And don't give me that it'll wear off crap. I want him back now!"
Fred (Aria assumed, not knowing which was which as they were absolutely identical) shrugged. "Who cares? No one's going to see him anyway. Christmas break starts tomorrow. Aren't you going home?"
Aria grimaced at Fred's suggestion before looking at her father who was still perched on her hand. "It'll be okay. We'll get home and no one will ever know, well, except for them." She nodded her head towards the twins.
"Here." George handed her a birdcage.
"Where the hell did you just suddenly get a birdcage?" She hesitantly took it from him.
He smiled cheekily. "A wizard never reveals his secrets."
Aria rolled her eyes and opened the cage, allowing her father to slowly wander in. There was a small bowl of seeds, some water, and even a little swing. "You'll be okay." She set the cage down on his desk. She turned to the twins. "You're lucky he's not hurt. I'm taking him to my room, but don't think this is over."
She stormed out of the classroom, cage in hand and down to the Slytherin common room.
"What a stupid bird." Malfoy sneered as soon as she had entered the common room.
Aria stifled a laugh. If only Malfoy knew who he was actually talking about.
"You think so?" Aria egged him on. The more foul things to come out of his mouth, the more detentions her father was sure to give him when he was no longer a bird. This was the perfect revenge, although she wasn't sure that it was enough.
"Just look at its stupid cross-eyed expression. And whoever saw a bird with eyebrows? You sure do know how to pick them, Snape."
"What's that supposed to mean?" She snapped.
She had planned to go straight to her room and leave her father there. This little quarrel with Malfoy was not part of the plan, especially if he decided to bring up Cedric.
"You know what, nevermore." Aria made her way to the stairs. "I'm not done with you, though."
Aria opened the door to her room and spotted Annabelle and Madison laying on the floor, eating candy and in the middle of what appeared to be an intense conversation.
Aria frowned at the sight. Annabelle was her best friend! Not Madison's.
"Where's your boyfriend?" She snapped, slamming the birdcage onto the nightstand by her bed.
"Gale's with his friends, so I thought that I'd hang out with mine." Madison lifted herself from the floor and went to hug Aria.
Aria held her hand up, turning down the hug. "Since when are we your friends? You never had the time to speak to us before." She pointed out, ignoring the glare that Anna was sending her.
"Don't pay any attention to her, Madison. Clearly, it's someone's time of the month, she isn't usually this rude."
The words hit Aria like an Unforgivable Curse. "And she isn't usually this friendly. You should hear what she says behind your back."
Annabelle's glare hardened. "Well, just the other day Aria told me that she thinks Gale is the most attractive Slytherin and that she wants to snog him at Hogsmeade!"
"I did not!" Aria gasped. "Filthy liar!"
"I... uh... I think I'll go." Madison grabbed her bag and hurried out of the room. Aria heard her footsteps as she ran down the staircase.
Anna exhaled harshly. "What is your problem?" She snapped and shoved Aria, almost knocking the birdcage off of the nightstand.
"Don't touch me," Aria warned. "And I don't have a problem. What's yours?"
"Mine?" Anna laughed humourlessly.
"Yes, yours. Two-faced much? You were just saying how much she annoys you!"
Anna shook her head. "No! I was saying how it annoys me when she talks in her sleep! Merlin, Aria! Sometimes I just can not with you!"
"Then go. Go and spend time with your new best friend."
"Maybe I will!" Anna snapped and left the room, storming down the staircase.
Aria's face turned up in disgust, but then it fell. She couldn't decide on an expression when she was feeling so many emotions at once.
She glanced towards her dad. "I'm going to dinner. I'll bring you back a few pumpkin seeds or something." She mumbled, not really in the mood to deal with him. Not only that, but she felt quite embarrassed after that whole scene had unfolded right in front of his eyes.
Aria huffed and made her way down to the common room, Malfoy looked up at her smugly. "What happened to your bird?"
"Shut up, Malfoy."
His mouth shut, surprisingly.
Aria headed to the Great Hall, planning to sit as far away from the traitor as possible, only to come to a completely different conclusion. Why must she move?
If they didn't want to be near her, they must move.
So Aria sat in her usual spot, right opposite Anna and Madison.
"Oh look," Anna called out. "It's no one. We should call Matilda over to sit opposite us because no one is sitting there!"
Aria had to bite her tongue to keep from lashing out at Annabelle. She wanted to say and do so many things, but causing a scene wasn't on that list.
She vowed to get her back for all the smack talk, though. Perhaps later in front of the whole common room.
Aria smirked. She knew the perfect thing to do.
