The drama was amazing. I began to appreciate the struggle of my ancestors for independence. But that got me thinking. It was with the same fake proclamation of the 'great love of Jesus' that these whites invaded our continent, professing the gospel as a cover up for their evil and selfish motives.

With the people blinded by the kind hearted outward appearance they put up, they robbed us of many of our natural resources. They made away with our gold, traded our ivory, stole our copper and bauxite, robbed us of our diamonds. And today, they help us pile up debts.

And we are also partly the cause. We sell to them our raw materials with no added value at cheap prices. They manufacture goods out of our raw materials and come back selling them to us at very dear prices. And sadly, we don't support our own local industries but patronise these foreign goods.

Truth is Africa never needed the world. The world needs Africa.

Yes, my dad was half British, but I know who I truly am- I'm a proud African.

After the time at the theatre, we headed home. At least that was what I thought until Myles made a diversion.
"Where are we heading?"
"It's a surprise."
"What if Carlos Diego is lurking around there?"
"Nice try. I have the place fully secured."
"You're not going to tell me?"
"Nope. It wouldn't be a surprise if I did."

We got to the West lake beach. It had soon grown to become our favourite spot. There were rose petals everywhere and two white seats positioned perfectly, overlooking the roaring waves of the mighty ocean and the beautiful sky overlooking it.

Myles must have spent a small fortune to have this beautiful look created to perfection. The sunset across the ocean was such a beauty. I could help but stand in awe of the beautiful sight.

"After you, milady." He said as he led me to the seats.
As we sat, our gaze still fixed on the beautiful orange sunset, Myles reached for my hand and held onto it squeezing it gently from time to time.

The beautiful sunset slowly faded away giving way to the dark night's sky.
"Jael..." He called out my name softly and turned and looked straight into his eyes. The darkness was slowly engulfing us.
"Would you be my girlfriend?"
