Chapter 1

The forested area's fragrance was Earthy, following a night of deluge. Hurrying waters from the Balkan River, deer running wildly, fowls peeping was one of the great things I could feel course through me.

Our pack was sprinting to the end of the road through the brush, each individual revealing their physical strength and capabilities. We smelled diesel and burned rubbed and could hear the squealing sound of brakes coming to a sudden stop. An average white couch bus with tinted windows had stopped at the end of the road and had greeted us with its presence.

The doors swung open revealing a couple of steep steps and a mature-looking woman. She had a pair of thick-framed glasses that fell to the tip of her nose and well-defined wrinkles that had shown signs of  her true age.

One after another we followed the pack's more dominant member. A male who proudly led the crowd onto a bus full of past enemies. He had a perfect stature and short auburn hair that fell onto his face. Although he seemed highly attractive, he was known as a conceited individual called Kane.

Kane pursued in trying to make the rest of us look less cowardly sitting in front of a higher-ranked vampire. He tried to assume the role of dominance which the vampire in return did the same.

The high-ranked vampire had a stone-cold set of amber eyes that refused to even glance at us. He seemed to have been more focused on his own reflection on the window. The more he looked, the more deeply he seemed to be stuck in his past.

The rest of the lowly vampires met our eyes with burning curiosity. They stood up one after the other to see who their new classmates were. Each one had a unique resemblance with contrasting hair and glossy eyes.

Part 2.

Groups were being shoved one on top of the other inside the backs of transport vehicles. Each individual responded in panic and proceeded to try and escape the violence. Others were getting shocked with stun stick tasers and mercilessly killed at the hands of the uniformed soldiers.

My mother was stuck inside her head ever since my father was slaughtered. She stood in the center of chaos holding my green backpack, wearing a worn dress that rested on her ankles. She looked painfully ill, bones poking through along with thinning brown hair. There was no sign of life other than the dilation of her pupils and her agitated breathing.

"Attention we will be arriving at the school shortly," the driver announced.

I caressed the palms of my hands, trying to plunder the resurfaced memory. Only when I had noticed the school, had I managed to calm the racing thoughts.

The school was a fortress that shadowed over a large scale of acres of green fields. The specks of color were classmates crowding to the edge of the gate. Everyone was drawn to the front to witness history.

The driver stopped when the bus was directly in front of the entrance where a mass crowd awaited on the other side. She pushed the manual lever handle to move the doors outward. We followed after the vampires had moved out and then our group leader.

Stepping out onto the paved driveways of the massive school, the crowd of onlookers whispered to one another. Other than the muffled voices, it was mostly silent stares.

Pushing through was the director who wore a black suit with his collar unbuttoned. He had a height of roughly 5'9 with brown hair combed neatly to the side. He welcomed us with a genuine smile and a firm handshake. Signaling with his hands to the door of the building, we followed in a single file line.
