The son whose parents were slain by a dark wizard named Voldemort was living with his uncle and aunt until he got to know what he really was. When he found out about his magical powers with the succour of Hagid and about Hogwarts-'The School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry" he decided to travel thither to learn magic like his mother and father did.
Later he also got to know about the prophecy that the demise of Lord Voldemort was written by his hands. With the help of headmaster Albus Dumbledore,he got to know about the 'horcrux' spell that Voldemort had used to split his soul into seven different parts, and that to kill him he must destroy those seven things in which Voldemort hid his soul parts.
By the aid of Ron and Hermione "two amazing wizards and friends of Harry",Harry Potter destroyed those seven horcruxes and the wizarding world became free of dark illusion.

After the end of the wizarding war,Harry first decided to put the elder wand in Dumbledore's tomb thinking that when he would die a natural death the wand powers would be undermined.
So he first utilized the magical powers of elder wand to revive his original wand of phoenix feather as he was happy with it. Then he also used that wand to rebuild and reconstruct the ruined columns and towers of Hogwarts as during the war many buildings had collapsed and ruined.
Afterwards he returned back to Dumbledore's tomb for putting the wand in its right position, but suddenly an odd fear grabbed his heart and he imagined what if he would not die a natural death? What if he would get shot down by some wizard or a witch. He didn't want that wand to be abused or even utilized by any other wizard or a witch, as by his past experience, he knew that "Power can make a man blind."
So he took a more direct approach, he snapped it in two,tossed it into the black lake, never to be seen again.
