Pov Paul.
When I was 14 I met a guy named George Harrison. We met on the school bus because we went to the same school, The Quarrybank. George used to take his guitar to school so he could practice while on the bus. The first time I heard him play I was 14 years old and he was 13 years old. After we found out we had the same music interests we started hanging out and became best friends! I was really impressed by george's guitar playing and when I joined the Quarryman I immediately told George and said he should sign up for an audition! When I introduced George to John he asked George to play and John was also impressed but when he asked for his age, George was 14 at the time, John laughed and shook his head. John had turned 17 back in october and he didn't want a 14 year old boy in his band, but because George would turn 15 in February John told him he could join the band when he actually was 15 and in February 1958 George joined the band!
Pov John
We then had 4 guitar players in our band; McCartney, Harrison, Griffiths and of course me. Paul and I suggested to Griffiths that he instead buy a bass guitar, but Griffiths refused because of the expense, so we told him to leave the band. Around the same time Len Garry, who played tea chest pass, got sick and ended up in hospital, he's still there, which left us with Colin Hanton, our drummer. But there was also good news! We had our first recording session in July that year.
On the 12th of July 1958 we first recorded 'In Spite Of All The Danger, which Paul wrote while was with George a few months ago so it was credited as McCartney/Harrison followed by Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day" I sang on both of the records. little did I know my mom would die only 3 days later on July 15th 1958.like I said, I'm almost 18 now and the last 3 months weren't the best of my life, I started to work in a restaurant (I quit already) while Paul en George went on holiday together, we haven't really played in the past months and we've changed the name of the band to Johnny and the Moondogs. I'ts getting better now, like said, talking to Paul about my mom really helps and paul and I are getting closer than ever. Paul and I also wrote many songs, one of our favourites is 'Love Me Do' we hope to release it someday!
Everything seemed to be fine for once but still that year didn't end very well, on the last day of 1958 Colin Hanton got in a fight with the rest of the moondogs and decided to quit, leaving John Paul and George without a drummer.
