Arriving at the church, the boys and I all pile out of the car in our tuxedos. I grip my white rose tightly in my shaking hands; white roses were always Callie’s favourites. My throat is so tight, sore from trying so hard not to cry. I glance over to the empty shells of my four best friends, standing with shaking breaths and red puffy eyes. None of us can really believe she’s gone; our beautiful reason to live is gone. We smile vacantly at the sad faces and crying people around us, hugging people we know and quietly acknowledging people we don’t.

The church is beautiful, with its blue and gold paint and the poppies placed in bouquets at the end of each pew, signifying someone who fought hard but just couldn’t overcome it. The boys and I sit in the front row with Rose in between Louis and Zayn, she sniffles occasionally, tugging on her black dress. The church is so busy, full of quietly sobbing or comforting the people near them, no one realised just how big an impact Callie made on their lives until she left.

The mass starts with a song the boys and I chose, it juts describes our feelings perfectly. Everyone stands up as the priest walks down the aisle; I gulp, holding back the wail threatening to escape my lips. Louis notices this and puts his arm around me, squeezing me gently. I hear him sniffle back the tears, I hear everyone sniffling back their tears.

The mass passes by in a blur; I can hardly see a thing from the tears appearing in my eyes. Suddenly, it’s time for me to make my speech. I stand up slowly, as if in a dream and shuffle to the podium. Taking a deep breath, I think about the beginning and open my mouth.

“Callie Rose Warren was my true love, but she meant something different to all of us - a best friend, someone to talk to, someone who made you smile once, someone who really listened to you, someone who was always ready to have a laugh. She showed us all how to really have fun and was always ready to help anyone who needed it, but more than that, Callie was an inspiration to us all. She managed to keep smiling even in her saddest, most painful moments. Some of you may not have known her that well, but every one of us here can say that Callie has made us feel so much better on at least one occasion. She was a perfect example of a fighter, someone who really did all they could to make the world better for us all. Callie came into my life a year ago, when I was finding my feet in the music industry. She inspired me to pursue my dreams and be myself. She always made everyone feel comfortable and gave the most amazing advice. No matter how someone treated her, she would always treat them with respect and love, and that was one of the many things that made me fall in love with her. Callie was the most beautiful, sweet, wonderful human beings I have ever met, she didn’t deserve to be ripped from our clutches so soon, but the world has a way of doing what you least expect. By a cruel twist of fate, I lost the one that meant most to me, and she lost her chance at life. But she wouldn’t want us to sit around here crying because she’s gone. This is a celebration of her life, a celebration of her bright, shining eyes, her soft hair, her beautiful smile and huge dimples. Her amazing voice and her terrible dancing skills. She was truly someone we should all continue to think about, we all have another angel in heaven looking down on us, and we all have someone we do everything for. I know that everything I do from now on, I do it for Callie.” I choke on my tears as I finish, before smiling sadly at the congregation before me and stepping slowly off the altar.

The boys nod at me in approval, smiling sad smiles towards me.

It’s not long before we are carrying the coffin towards the graveyard. I’ve never been in a graveyard before, never had to be in one, so I never went. I never knew before just how peaceful they are, you have no expectations, you don’t have to hold up an ‘image.’ You can be you with the ones you love without having to worry about anyone else’s opinions of you.
