I had to be quick.
If I waste even just a second, this whole plan is going up in flames. I'm supposed to meet Darren by the stream in an hour. I have to get moving.
Keeping my head down, I quickly make my way to the kitchen and up to the attic. The king made it this way, so that once I wake up, I come down straight into the kitchen and begin breakfast. As always people gave me strange looks as I passor by them. Some even going as far as insulting me or shoving me away.
I didn't care though.
This wouldn't be the last time either. I had to move quickly. Once I passed the last person, I broke into a sprint and got to the latch. Securing that the door was locked behind me, I grabbed the small backpack Darren borrowed me and stuffed my small belongings in it. l walked over to the window and silently opened the hatch so as not to draw attention to myself. Getting down successfully, I rushed into the woods and started running with all the strength I had.
I was so close to the stream, when an alarm was raised from the packhouse. They must've realized I wasn't there like I was supposed to be. Most likely, one of them had come to call me to go prepare dinner. Not long after, l heard the sound of feet running towards me. And not just one.
Multiple.
They were chasing me and were gaining on me quickly. Just as they caught up to me, I burst in to the clearing seeing the stream right in front of me.Something seemed different about it though. The dark blue of the reflection of the sky and the green of the bottom of the stream were mixed together and was shimering. As if the stars had come down and rested on the surface of the stream. It looked like it was glowing. The waterfall also looked like there was glitter in it. Without missing a beat, I immediately jumped into the stream and swam until l was behind the waterfall. I would've loved to stay and watch the waterfall but with at least twenty people chasing me, that wasn't an option.
Before they could even jump into the stream, I was already out, still behind the waterfall, and started towards the cave. I had found it one night when swimming in the stream. While everyone was asleep, I always came here to go for a swim and one night as I swam past the falling water, I noticed the whole in the wall. I followed the tunnel until I came out and what I saw was this beautiful meadow. That was where I met Darren and we instantly clicked and became friends.
Upon entering the cave, I turned around and rolled the big stone in front of the entrance so the warriors wouldn't see it. I quickly lit the candle and followed the familiar path to the meadow, where Darren should be waiting for me. I always wondered where Darren was from. He doesn't smell like a rouge and sometimes he'd leave for days, weeks, even months without saying any thing.
