Lavinia
These guys were the best. They didn't give me any issues like Kia's group did. But to be honest, after the beating they saw her put on that one guy, I think figured that they shouldn't mess with us. Our powers and battle prowess were on another level.
I saw the Alpha with his group. My sister sure has met her mate. He was always silent and serious but every time he looks at her, his aura changes. His face tries to stay stoic but his eyes betray him every time.
We finished off our practice with formations and ended up pairing up for sparring. "That's it. Remember to keep your guard up, from now one anyone across from you is the enemy. In battle, it's them or you." I walked around them with a small cane in my hand and correct their postures.
"Nice one Daniel. But remember, guard your weak spots. The way you attack leaves a big opening for them to crouch down and spill your insides onto the ground." I walked on.
I have been told multiple times that I often speak without thinking about how sensitive the other person is. But in my opinion, people are always sensitive. Especially going through high school, with kids who come from old money. Rich kids who were often too spoilt for their own good. I always got in trouble for telling them the truth, only to have it offend them.
What a bunch of cotton-wrapped ninnies! The real world is never kind. Life doesn't go they way you want it to, life will offend you. But you either curl up into a ball and cry or you take it on and roll with the punches. Another reason why I admired and envied my sister. She always thought of others, not so much what they thought but rather how they would feel.
I know exactly what everyone thinks...I think I have more interest in watching paint dry then listening to certain humans thoughts. It was boring, self-centred and ultimately shallow. I thought mages were vain but these rich humans have us beat.
I wouldn't say I'm vain per se but I am very proud of who I am, of my family and of my people. But I don't lord it over someone just because they are different.
I wasn't raised that way.
They went on sparring until the sunset and then they ran around the territory to warm down. I sat back and relaxed a bit, watching Nox keep an eye out for Kia as she led her group for their warm down.
They were adorable. How their eyes kept wandering over to the other. I can't help but imagine that's exactly how it'll be for me. I didn't have many expectations for my mate. Only that he respected me and loved me unconditionally because...let's face it, I come with a lot of conditions.
Being one of the elemental four was a big deal in and of itself. Not to mention my overprotective siblings and parents, responsibilities as captain and being a princess of the realm. It is not easy to try and keep up with me. Whether its running, my thought process or the way I speak, I was always told I was too fast. So I had always hoped for someone who can accept that. I knew for sure that I didn't want to be mated to a mage. I didn't hate my own kind, but our men were way too cocky and vain for my liking. It would be different if they were just proud of who they were and their ability but no...they actually thought they were better then everyone else. It disgusted me beyond belief. So I prayed to my Guardian Divine, the air god Apo, to plead with the fates. If I were to be mated to a mage, I will go into the air temple as a nun and serve him for the rest of my life...Now that I have made that vow, I can't take it back.
But it was still messing with my thoughts. I took a walk around the group when I felt the wind.
With my abilities, I have developed a connection with the North, South, East and West wind spirits, they're like old friends to me. They gave me a warning that something was wrong with the border of the pack. I signalled the others as I ran to the west border of the land.
I was almost there when a horrible stench hit me and made me double over to throw up.
It smelt like a thousand rotting corpses.
Everyone else caught up, including a few of the pack members. Loud wailing and sobs could be heard.
Bodies of all the wolves who tried to leave the pack were piled together and a note was stuck to the young boy at the top of the pile.
We will not have your spies on our land before the challenge. Keep your trash.
Kia was on the ground and sobbing into her mate. Not only was her heart breaking for the wolves, but her emotions were also further affected by the sadness all around her, thus making her amplify theirs. It was a terrible cycle that everyone was caught up in until Nox used his aura to shield her. Jamie and I, although we do feel for the wolves, we knew that this was an unforgivable act of war. We got the warriors to collect all the bodies, encouraging the others to collect their dead family members as we prepared a funeral for them.
As Jamie quickly got the wolves to set up the pyres, I went to Kia and the wolves.
They were all huddled in a group. Human interaction like that...I understood but it still befuddled me. I knew that comfort in the form of hugs was great during times of pain and sorrow, but a hug never spoke to me in that way. I much prefer not touching people if I could avoid it...but I do know when to give a hug. It is quite hard to explain but that's how it is.
I went to them to discuss how to deal with this new threat.
"There's no way this was the work of just one pack. I have a feeling that Alpha Blake has made an alliance with some other creatures." I told them, confidently.
"I agree. I think it was witches. It would make sense that he got the witches in through his land and then got them to attack us. It's a win-win for him. A strong ally and a bigger pack." Kia put in, her hatred for the witches and the Alpha showing through her glowing eyes.
"We don't have enough pack members for war, and to be honest after today, I think a lot of their spirits are broken," said Erica with sadness in her voice.
A beat then Nox spoke, "I don't think so. I think if anything, it feeds their fire to make those bastards pay." We all pondered that for a moment.
Jamie came back and dropped some more news.
"They've all been de-fanged...even the pups." her eyes were red with tears and fury.
"The Blue moon pack will pay"
We turned around and the last person we expected to be there had spoken. And she looked pissed.
Rue.
