Richie Tozier. A name that would soon be the one constantly etched into Eddie Kaspbrak's mind. But for now, his name was just a name that crossed Eddie's mind as much as any other friend would. Shades of black and yellow came into view as the boy glanced down at the pencil he held in his dainty hands. Dainty. How he hated that word.
The boys fingers fiddled with the pencil, making sure to look at the teacher every once in a while. Obviously, Eddie had brought his own pencil. He wasn't the type of student to forget a school supply, unless he was having a rather bad day. Besides, the thought of borrowing a pencil that numerous students had potentially touched scared the hell out of him.
One of the biggest horrors of school, at least for Eddie, was borrowed equipment.
"So class, as you can see, cell division is where daughter cells..."
The draining noise of the teacher made it hard for Eddie to focus. He was a rather attentive student in most of his classes, but all the large words in biology and chemistry confused him. Which is ironic considering he could memorise all of his medications without hesitation.Eddie snapped out of his thoughts as he suddenly felt suddenly something light, yet sharp, smack him on the back. The small boy jumped slightly at the shock, but other than that, he didn't react.
'It's probably just Greta...or Patrick...'
Eddie assumed as he shook his head slightly, frustrated with their immaturity. That's why he hadn't reacted. Sometimes it was best not to give people the reaction they wanted. It was when he heard the faint whisper, "psst...Ed's..." , that Eddie realised it had been none other than Richie Tozier who had thrown the paper at his back.
I hate being called that...and Richie knows it.
Eddie finally glanced over his shoulder to connect his eyes with Richie, who was sat on the desk diagonally behind his own. It was at that moment that Richie pretended to fall asleep, indicating to Eddie that he was dying of boredom over cell division.
Eddie just rolled his eyes at him, cracking a slight smile. This was eddies subtle way of telling Richie to pay attention to the class, even though he found him slightly funny.
Sighing in defeat, Richie pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose as he moved his attention to the window. The biology classroom had a great glass window where you could see lines of tables and benches outside. Richie's eyes glanced at his usual table. Well...the losers' usual table. This only made him yearn for food even more.
As if on queue, the shrill shriek of the school bell rung through the hallways.
"Yes!" Richie exclaimed, probably a little too loudly.
As the classroom began to empty, Eddie hopped up from his seat, shoving his biology textbook back into his backpack.Richie reached Eddies desk and perched up on the one next to his, impatiently waiting for Eddie to pack his stuff away.
"Cell Division is the reason most people don't wanna come to school. It's so boring" the bespectacled boy complained as he rested his hands on either side of the wooden desk."Tell me about it" Eddie agreed as he placed his pencil case back into his backpack, zipping it up.
"I have so much biology homework to catch up on. I just stare at the words on the page and sometimes...the long words confuse me" Eddie rantedRichie didn't mind Eddie's little rants, not in the slightest.
"You'd think with all the complicated words in your medication, that you wouldn't have problems pronouncing big words" Richie stated, half teasing the boy.
"My thoughts exactly" Eddie replied as he hauled his backpack onto his relatively small shoulders. " come on, I bet everyone is already at the usual table" Eddie added, suddenly remembering it was lunch time.
