The days had turned to weeks and the weeks into months. To put it simply - not a lot had happened. You'd have thought living in the house of an infamous mafia gang would be more eventful, but it wasn't. The guys still went out, returning in blood stained clothes and a few bruises every now and again but Taehyung had stopped dragging me along with them. In fact it was almost like I didn't even exist anymore. Yet I knew this was just the calm before the storm. Taehyung seemed more stressed nowadays and he worked longer hours than usual. I knew this due to the faint yellow glow that beamed under the door of his office during the early hours of the day. I knew what was coming was big. Potentially even fatal if it had anything to do with Taehyung. The guys had grown distant from me too, as if they were practicing for my inevitable disappearance. The weather had also taken a turn for the worst. Dark clouds blanketed the skies and raindrops hurled themselves down to Earth. I had always liked the sound of rain and the musty smell it left behind but thunderstorms were different. I move to the window, drawing the curtain closed. I reach out for the other but I am stopped when I notice two small lights in the distance. Gradually they get closer and closer. I soon realise it's a car, not just one but several, slowly creeping closer to the tall metal gates. The gates swing open before they have even reached them and I furrow my eyebrows. Who was visiting at this time of night?
A series of knocks at my door make me almost jump out of my skin. I turn my head quickly as Namjoon steps into the bedroom. "You need to get ready," he instructs before retreating out of the room, closing the door firmly behind him. This was the last mission. It was tonight. I hadn't expected it to be so soon. I feel my heartbeat quicken and the palms of my hands begin to sweat. I grab a hair tie and quickly put my hair up in a messy ponytail before making my way downstairs.
"Hanna," Si hyuk smiles as I come into his view, "it is a pleasure once again." He bows his head slightly. About a dozen men stand behind him, all armed. I recognise a couple from the last time he had visited. Taehyung and Jungkook enter the hallway, briefly acknowledging Si hyuk.
"I suppose you've done what I asked of you," Taehyung raises an eyebrow. As he speaks, the others all walk in to stand behind Jungkook and Taehyung. It was rare for all of them to be in the same place at once when it came to work. Often they split into groups and undertook different jobs, but today they all gathered together and to say it didn't worry me would be an understatement. "Of course," Si hyuk smiles, "he is exactly where you asked him to be." Taehyung nods and visibly relaxes his shoulders. It seemed as if he had been expecting the worst.
"We will follow after you," Taehyung mumbles as he leaves the room, re-emerging with a gun in his grasp seconds later. Si hyuk and his men turn and filter out of the room in an organised manner. "This is for you," Taehyung says into my ear from behind me. He reaches his arm around my waist, placing the cold metal into my hand. "Get in the car," he instructs leaving me behind with the others. I feel someone poke at my back to get me to move. Without another moment of hesitation I follow after Taehyung to the car waiting outside. Everyone seemed to be more on edge then ever and none of the others had checked in on me to make sure I was alright. In fact they were treating me like what I actually was, just some girl they had kidnapped from the street.
I try focusing on the bumps and dips in the road as the car jostles over the dirt path. I could see Taehyung in the corner of my eye, focused forwards with the curls of his hair gently brushing against his eyelashes. The car pulls up to an abandoned-looking house. I could escape now if I wanted to. I could get out of the car and run as fast as I could but what exactly would I be running back to? I didn't have a life worth going back to before I met Taehyung.
Taehyung gets out of the car and I know I should do the same. Inside the building it is pitch black. The darkness robs me of my eyesight, instead replacing it with fear. The continuous blinking of my eyelids is the only thing telling me I still have eyes. I follow the sounds of footsteps in front of me before it becomes silent. I stop and that's when the lights come on. In front of me is the same guy I recognised from the pictures on the club wall. He was no longer in a clean, expensive suit and he didn't have the signature smile on his face. Instead his hair was matted with dry blood and cuts and bruises discolour the skin on his face and arms. His eyes just two sunken pits, so full of sorrow and regret.
"Mr Lee, it's nice to meet you again," Taehyung smirks at the sight of him, impressed by Si hyuks work. I look around me and notice Si hyuk is no where to be seen. Lee looks up at Taehyung in anger before it is quickly replaced by defeat. So this was the man. "You know I take great pleasure in knowing I'll be the last thing you see before you die," Taehyung laughs venomously. I take a step backwards, frightened of the scene in front of me but Jimin places his hand on my back, preventing me from getting any further away.
"You'll know just how your wife felt when you ordered me to kill her. Has it already been three years? I've always wondered why you wanted her dead? Is it because you found out she was seeing another man behind your back? Or perhaps it was because she hated you for giving up her child for adoption," Taehyung continues beginning to slowly circle around the male. Lee's eyes widen as he he tries and fails to break free of the ropes tied around him. It felt like I was watching a scene from a horror movie, how could people be so ruthless?
"Actually, you were adopted Hanna. Maybe you'd like to tell him how it feels? What would you say to your father if you could?" Taehyung stops to look at me, a small smirk on his face. My mind goes blank, paralysed with fear, scared I would say the wrong thing.
"I-I don't know," I stutter, suddenly hating all of the attention I was receiving. Taehyung's smirk falls into a frown. "Don't be afraid, Hanna," he strokes his index finger along my jaw, carefully caressing my skin. He pushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear smiling at me warmly. I wasn't naive to the fact that I knew this was just all an act, a part of Taehyung's plan to get me to do what he wanted. Although his actions may appear affectionate I knew very well that wasn't the case. I had been played all along.
"I would ask him why he did it? What did I ever do to make him hate me so much? So much that he let me grow up with no one by my side. No one to look after me when I was sick and no one to come home to after a hard day." There was so much more that I could say but I just didn't know how to put it into words and I never will. Words weren't enough to describe the pain and hurt I'd felt my entire childhood.
"Doesn't that fill with you with guilt? Knowing how poor Hanna felt, that's what you put your daughter through," Taehyung pouts. It riled me up knowing Taehyung was using my trauma as a weapon against Lee. "How much did you promise to pay me for killing your wife? $5,000? $10,000? Maybe you'd like to explain why you didn't pay me because we sure wouldn't be in this situation if you had stuck to your promises," Taehyung spits out. As I watch I grow more and more anxious as to what part I played in all of this. What exactly was I doing here? Lee tries to respond but he is cut off by a violent punch to his face. I let out a small gasp, looking at Jimin who was staring at the man with an animalistic look in his eyes and blood staining his knuckles.
"I actually sat down for a really long time and contemplated all the different ways I could kill you. It took months of planning, but thanks to Jungkook's little plan, which I must admit was much more cold-hearted than I was originally planning, we finally pulled it off," Taehyung smiles. I glance over at Jungkook who immediately breaks eye contact, shifting his eyes down to focus on the floor.
Taehyung approaches Lee with long strides and grabs hold of the collar of his torn shirt. He pulls at the material, ripping it in half to expose Lee's chest and torso. I feel strange staring but it wasn't until Taehyung moved away that I noticed it. On his chest was a brown mark, identical to the one on my hip. Everything seemed to fall into place at once, like I'd just found the missing puzzle piece I'd been searching for my entire life. It wasn't a birthmark it was a brand. I was branded with the mark of a mafia gang and I had never known it.
"Why don't you say hello to your father Hanna?" Taehyung gestures towards Lee as he smirks at me. Anger floods through my veins and before I know it I'm running towards Taehyung with intent to kill him. I'm stopped my Jungkook and Jimin who grab hold of my arms before I can get anywhere near him. I kick out, moving and twisting my body to get them to release me but they only hold tighter. I stomp my foot down with as much force as I can onto Jungkook's foot. He hisses trying to bare the pain as he grips my arm.
"I fucking hate you," I shout at Taehyung through gritted teeth. For a split second his eyes soften and I notice the guilt displayed in them, but as soon as it appears it's gone the next.
