"Soulmates"
They say that the key to one's soul is through the eyes...
Sakura Haruno has a pretty normal life, or so she says, her life was rather complicated. A broken family, sad childhood, weird kid, everything that she isn't today. Opposite of what the people see.
It was only the first month of her senior year in high school but things went astray for her. Her beliefs were one the reasons that she's different from her peers but never did she imagined that their teacher, Kakashi would've insulted her like that, it was supposed to be a harmless discussion but she was forced to receive a lecture as if she was clueless of the world as if she's wrong to choose for herself as if she can't be free and believe in what she believes into.
Sakura, for one, is strong but when it comes to herself, her beliefs, personality, and everything that makes her, Sakura, it really tears her apart. She is strong but not strong enough to fight on her own.
It brought her down; her self-esteem plummeted to the ground, her confidence had been broken and her determination just flew out of the window.
It's been a week, just a week since that happened but it affected her too much, she felt as if, her entire being is being questioned, she felt as if she was being scorned to death.
Sakura felt it again, she felt the loneliness that she dreaded, she felt the sadness that had been sleeping inside of her and that weird and familiar feeling of nothingness, of hollowness, the feeling of the void is coming back again like seasonal flu, returning again and again when the time comes.
'I wish I normal. If.. they could only understand.' Sakura thought as she looked at her joyous friends that screamed recess when the bell rang, she hadn't been fully distracted by her thoughts but every time that she saw her friends being what they are and who they are, really struck a chord in her.
"Sakura-chan! We're going out to eat! You wanna come with us?" The blonde-haired, hyperactive, loudmouthed so-called close friend of hers practically screamed at her. She sighed at him and smiled, "Nah, I'm good Naruto. I'll stay here."
Naruto didn't hear the underlying sad tone to her voice, it's either he never did or he just didn't want to annoy her more and so he grabbed Kiba instead, "Come on! Let's get some food!"
Sakura watched them go, Naruto eagerly showing the transferee, Kiba into his new school. She briefly wondered what was Ino, her best friend, had been doing, 'Where was she when I needed her the most?'
She sighed inwardly, lately, Ino had interested herself with boys, Sakura never really understood why her friend is that desperate to get a boyfriend too much that she didn't seem to care what Sakura's been going through, 'I just hope that she's here with me...'
She felt lonely, sad, tired and there it was, that lingering hole in her chest, that hollow feeling is returning again. Oh, how she hated it, it reminded her of her broken and complicated family, it reminded her of childhood, it reminded her of the forced maturity that she had to go through. It reminded her of the past that she desperately wanted to forget.
Was she slipping into it again? The utter hollowness in the chest that no one can explain?
Sakura mused quietly, looking outside their classroom, looking at the students and the children that were enjoying their time around the campus, she was completely oblivious at the obsidian eyes that were observing her.
He stares at her and observers her. They were different, very different, the polar opposites to be honest. He is quiet, aloof and didn't care much to other people. He has always been this way, even if he was with his family or he's spending time outside. He keeps thins to himself and tries to live a private life, it's better that way he believes.
But then he saw her He knows her name, it wasn't really hard to remember, and for the past two weeks that he had observed her, he discovered that she is smart, domineering, and confident, and maybe that's the reason why the whole class had elected her as their class president, it got to be it.
Sakura's really cheerful, as well, sitting in front of her, he can always hear them talk at the back. It was usually her, Naruto, Kiba, Lee and Neji. She was one of the boys, he discovered. They were always so noisy but they really are a lot of fun. And so looking at her sullen and lost in her own world only meant that she isn't okay.
It wasn't his place. He wasn't her friend, he's just her classmate. He only knew Sakura for two weeks and he never spoke to her unless needed, hell, he didn't actually think that he had spoken to her in the past week but when he saw her, staring sadly outside, quietly contemplating, he felt something stirred inside of him.
He looked at her again and there was it again, it was her eyes. Her damn eyes. Her eyes, it weeps.
So he did what he felt like he needed to do, he did what he felt what he had to do.
He slowly approached Sakura, her back facing him. And when he was directly behind her, he did what he doesn't usually do.
The raven-haired spoke gently, "You look depressed."
Sakura jumped a little, looking at him and recognized him, 'Sasuke'. It was weird, they never had spoken to each other before but nonetheless, she smiled a little — a sad smile, "How did you know?"
And he answered naturally, "I can see it in your eyes."
It wasn't that much but it was a genuine moment, a heartfelt moment, it was one moment that they'll never forget, it was that moment that had started everything.
From that moment they made a connection, a sign that the universe had given them to make it known that they were destined for each other.
That for Sakura's misery, Sasuke will always be there to be her light. That for Sasuke's demise, Sakura will always be there to understand, heal and guide him.
From that moment they created a bond. A bond that blooms into friendship. A bond that developed into love and sealed to last.
