I was taken to the cages and thrown in, along with the order to stay in there until my trial would come. I would've been fine with it, but I was on the opposite side from Eliza which just added insult to injury
A part of me was regretting my decision, but I didn't want Eliza to get in trouble when she got out of here
And if it meant she would live on without me well...
Better her than me
Eliza and I tried talking to each other but it was near impossible through the swarm of demons, so we stuck to ourselves and waited it out
The time eventually came, and Eliza was taken out of her cage first
The General and much of the Demon population went to the trial site, leaving just a few to escort us
Eliza wasn't restrained, but she was surrounded on all sides by demons while I was dragged out and put in shackles around my wrists and neck
I followed solemnly in line, ready to accept what was undoubtedly about to come, doing my best to keep my head high
It wasn't that much of a fly, but with the added chains and dread it felt like an eternity. I could tell we were close though, because of the sudden surge of natural energy, which suggested that a hoard of angels were gathered not too far away. I cast a glance at Eliza, and saw she'd been affected the same way, suggesting there were a lot of demons
As we got closer, the energies cancelled each other out, and I could see the main hub. It was a circular stone like amphitheater, with The General and Martha seated side by side in the center, but above the ground
By the looks of it, they wanted to be closer together, but refrained for obvious reasons
Eliza was lead over to the crowd of Angels, where she was let go and she flew into the arms of two other Angels who were glaring daggers at me
They must've been her sisters
I was lead to the center and forced onto me knees while the shackles we attached to the ground, locking me in place. It was hella uncomfortable, but I guess that was the point
There were many jeers from both sides, more prominently from the Demon side, but The General stood up and immediately everyone was silent
No one, not even the Angels in Heaven wanted Washington to get angry
Martha crossed her legs and looked down at me, but I couldn't read her expression which just made me even more nervous
It was one thing to know that Washington was angry, but it was another if I managed to piss of Martha
"Maria Reynolds" Washington boomed, and I could feel the vibrations of his voice long after his mouth had closed "You are on trial for breaking the most sacred of rules in both realms of Heaven and Hell. How do you plead??" Washington asked and I lifted my head to face him
"Guilty, but I did nothing wrong" I said and it felt like the crowd grew even quieter
"That's not what you told me" The General said "From what I heard you irrationally decided to capture an Angel and confine her to Hell, even though you knew that was forbidden" Washington said
Well if I was gonna go out I might as well make a show of it and go down fighting
"Why aren't you mentioning the fact that I released her and took her to Angel territory??" I asked and Washington was about to say something but was interrupted by Eliza
Thank god she was an Angel or she'd be dead-
"She's right!! She even stayed with me in Angel territory until I recovered, even though it only hurt her!!" Eliza cried
