Prologue

When I was little my parents told me stories about people who would drink blood from other people to live, I never believed in those stories. Until I meet one myself, this is the story about how I met my soulmate.

My name is Dakota Gilbert, and this is my love story, in my story you will meet a few people,
Damon Salvatore, Stefan Salvatore, Bonnie Bennett, Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood. They are my friends, but Damon...Damon is a different story.

-Flashback-

Sunday diary entry:
Tomorrow is my first day back to school after my parents death. My brother and sister took it better than I did, they seem to be doing fine now, but not me. Of course I would never tell them that, they both think I am doing better. So I keep it to myself, I pretend that I am doing okay when I'm breaking on the inside. I never tell my friends either, Caroline and Bonnie, who are also my sister Elena's friends, they have enough going on in their lives, that they don't need my problems too.

Dakota POV:
I wake up like normal and turn off my alarm and slowly drag myself out of bed. I walk to the bathroom and knock on my brother's door before locking both mine and his door that lead into the bathroom, I turn on the shower and look at myself in the mirror. My eyes have gotten some of the light I lost when my parents died, but it's not all there. I am not going out for cheerleading this year, I did that for my mom, now I have no reason to do it. I know Caroline will be upset with me but I don't care at this point, Elena is still trying out though so she will get over it.
    I want my senior year to be over with so I can leave this town. I know Jeremy will be sad to see me leave but I can't stay in a town where everywhere I go I think of my parents. I hop in the shower and wash my hair and turn the water after I finish, I dry off and blow dry my hair.
I head back to my room and see Jeremy going into the bathroom, I hear Aunt Jen in the kitchen making coffee. I shut my door and start getting dressed, I pull on my skinny jeans and my black shirt with my cream color sweater. I love Mystic Falls but it is always so cold, I wish it would be a little warmer. I walk out of my bedroom and walk down stairs to the kitchen and grab a cup from the cabinet, I pour some coffee in my cup and add a little cream and sugar. Aunt Jen looks at me strangely, I stare at her blankly. "What?" I finally ask her, fed up with her staring at me while I slowly sip the coffee before adding more sugar.
She snaps out of it and finally replies, "I-it's nothing, it's just that you have never drank coffee before." I roll my eyes when I see she has turned around, "I never needed coffee before this year. Senior year is gonna be more taxing than the last 3." I reply, finishing my coffee and sticking the cup in the sink.
"Elena left already, so you have to take Jeremy." I nod slowly at her.  After Jeremy gets done getting dressed we get in my car and drive to school, once there we both get out and I remind Jeremy to stay away from the stoner den that he thought I knew nothing about and knew nothing about him skipping class to hang out there.
