His riffle strapped to his back, holding tightly in his right hand is a rosary that rests on his chest, with a shivering knee and a tearful eye; he gasps for a breath as he tries to console himself from crying out loud to the trees that stood watching this lone legionnaire who has lost his way in an Enemy's territory and under the scorching sun of a sahara-sand filled community of Metele, a town bordering Borno state of Nigeria and Niger republic.
Stammering with deep grief, fears and pains of being forsaken and left to die alone in a haunted forest by his Unit; Sergeant Gbenga Olonishakin of the Nigerian Army watches in great compassion the lifeless body of his younger brother, a fellow legionnaire in the army who bled all through the night from a gunshot wound he sustained at the battle front the night before the two fled.
"Rest in peace Dear brother", Sergeant Gbenga concludes saying the epitaph, the heavy iron helmet on his head that has become a liability to him keeps drawing him back as he stagger on the narrow footpath through the depth of the forest that has become a nightmare to him; Happily, he breath a deep sigh of relief which has in a short time healed all his pains and fears of not making it past the ransacked community alive.
With hands stretched out, the heavy bulletproofed jacket that keeps adding loads to his tired legs, joyfully, he throws away his helmet, turned all blue with excitement, the tears that rolls down his cheeks freely, he runs to embrace his Captain that has just alighted from a helicopter to rescue this lost soldier of his; at last, it is a breath away from sanctuary.
Alas! The cool breeze is overtaken by dust storms, the birds jumps out from their nests and places of hiding and flee away to the open clouds, the debris of the helicopter litters everywhere, body parts can visibly be seen torn off from its host as it litters the open field, kissing a goodbye to life, Sergeant Gbenga had stepped on a terrorist's planted land mine; the hopes of gaining a save haven by these brave soldiers gets blown away into the thin air, the volcanic sound that sums up the sad event, calm like a sea at dawn the forest became, indeed they seek for a sanctuary, that is sadly OUT OF THIS WORLD.
