Chapter 1

I sigh as I turn the corner onto my street. How the hell was I supposed to know it was going to be this cold on a November night? I just moved here from San Diego, California. I was just getting used to the random weather changes, and people being obsessed with sports wear such as Nike. "You'll absolutely love the snow, the people, and your family. Trust me, kiddo."  My dad had told me on our plane ride here.

No. I thought as I kicked a hard rock of ice in the street. I won't trust you. Especially since  you're the one to take me from my own mother.

As I kept walking, I mentally noted to bring a coat next time I went anywhere. I looked around and didn't recognize any of the houses I was seeing.  I knew I would get lost ; I didn't know this town. I stopped to take my phone out when I looked ahead of me and saw a silhouette walking toward my way. I quickly unzipped my backpack and looked for my phone. I tried to receive what I was looking for before it reached me.

No..Where is it? I thought, and finally gave up. I scooted to the side of the sidewalk behind an upcoming tall bush, so the figure would'nt see me. I peeked though, only to realize it was almost too dark to notice anything but the street lights. I found myself not wanting to move.

What are you doing? Don't be scared of it. I peeked through the bushes and tried to look down the street. Three houses away, and I still could'nt tell who it was or what it was wearing. After debating whether or not to keep hiding, I decided to step out of the bushes. I suddenly ran into something hard and cold. I found myself falling into the nearby snow pile.

"What was that for?" I heard a voice yell at me from a few feet away. I open my eyes to find a tall guy, maybe older than me, looking at me with fury in his eyes. I tried to sit up, but sunk back into the snow pile. He walks closer to me and stops right before the pile. "Were you spying on me?"

I stuttered a bit before finding the words to say. "N-No, I don't know this area. I think I was lost." I felt the cold wetness sink into my clothing.  He smiles before saying, "Well, obviously you were lost." He holds out his hand as he helps me get up. "No one walks around here this late. No one should, either." I pick up my backpack that fell, and look at him. I notice his curly brown hair covering some of his eyes. I felt like I've seen him before. His eyes reflected the snow falling behind me. I looked into them, and wondered if they could really give me a glimpse of his soul.

His sudden deep voice startled me. "Where are you headed?" I thought about this for a second. Where was I going? "Just anywhere." Finally comes out of my mouth. He smiles at me and takes my hand. "Great. So am I."
