"John? You know I was in class right?"
"Oh yeah...my bad."
"It's fine. Why'd you call though? Did something happen?"
"No, I just wanted to let you know I'm okay. And I'm still really sorry."
"John, if you apologize one more time I'm going to beat you with a stick. It's okay. Not everyone here forgives you but I saw what it was like to be you. I understand. Just don't do it again. Okay?"
"Okay...well hey. I made some friends I'm going to get a drink with. I'll call you later okay?"
"Okay. Have fun! Talk to you later." She hung up, and John smiles at his phone. He felt really bad for what he did, but she forgave him, and that means a lot to him. Putting his phone in his pocket he ran to catch up to Elaine and Arlo.
In the Press Room, an orange haired boy was taking notes about events in the school when he heard the door open. He looked up and his eyes widened in slight fear.
"H-hey Seraphina! Something you need?"
"Isen, you're good at learning about people aren't you?"
"I suppose I am, why? Who do you want to learn about?"
"That new kid, John. I want to know anything you can find on him. You have a week. Do not disappoint me." She said coldly and turned around, slamming the door on her way out. Isen sat there with a scared smile on his face.
"I thought she was gunna killz me! But John? Didn't he defeat her?" He rubbed his chin.
"I suppose I can try to ask him directly. Maybe that'll give me an idea on where to start. But first, I need to go to the mall and buy more pens."
John, Arlo and Elaine arrived at Starrbucks and sat down at a table. A girl with watermelon pink hair scurried over to them and pulled out a pen.
"H-hello! My name is Evie, and I'll be your waitress today." She looked at John and blushed slightly, then to Elaine then finally noticed Arlo.
"W-wait, Arlo? King of Wellston?" She stuttered out, slightly shaking.
"Uh, yeah. I've seen you around Wellston before." He said, looking at her.
"OMGHENOTICEDME???" She felt her face turn bright red before shaking her head and clicking her pen.
"What would you like to o-order?"
"I'll have a crumble cookie grande." She wrote it down and looked at Elaine.
"And you ma'am?"
"I-I'll have the same thing." She wrote down and x2 next to Arlo's order and looked at John.
"I'll take what they're having." She smiled, but on the inside she was beating John up for making her have to scribble out her x2.
"Alright, your order will be here soon." She turned and walked away, and John watched her go.
"She goes to Wellston?"
"Yes. I think she's a low tier though."
"Eh, who cares about ranks?" John said, making Arlo look at him.
"That reminds me, you're a high-tier aren't you? Why do you disregard the ranks? You're clearly strong enough to lead, so why won't you?" John looked down sadly, thinking about the faces and bodies of his classmates he had beaten down.
"I had an experience...it showed me ranks don't mean anything. You could be the strongest, but if you use your powers for the wrong thing, you'll only find disaster." He answered, staring at his hands. Arlo blinked. That's not at all what he was expecting. Elaine looked at him and could see the pain he was trying to hide. She would mention this to Arlo later.
"So you have no interest in running Wellston?" This surprised both of them. Nobody would just willingly give up their Royal status.
"What?"
"You defeated the Queen. I can't even do that, it's only fitting. The strongest should lead."
"I don't want to be King." He responded quickly.
"It's your duty-"
"Arlo." John said, his eyes starting to glow.
"Please. I don't want to be King." Arlo felt the pressure and had to stop himself from activating his ability on instinct. John certainly was powerful. The only two people to make him feel that way were Rei and Seraphina. John deactivated his ability and sighed.
"How about this...instead of being King, how about Ace?"
"Ace? We have an Ace?" Elaine asked, to which Arlo only shook his head.
"Not officially, no. The school already recognizes John as a Royal. Might as well make it kinda official, right?" John thought it over. It was a position of power, and he didn't have to do much. It sounded good to him.
"Fine, I'll be the Ace if that's what you want." He failed to notice Arlo smile.
"Here's your drinks!" Evie showed up, holding their drinks on a platter she set down on the table.
"When you're ready to pay, just call me over. You guys have a good day!" She smiled and waved, and walked back to the back. John grabbed his drink and took a sip.
"Woah, this is pretty damn good!"
"I know. That's why I buy it." He smirked, and John looked at him.
"Wait, did you just joke with me? Is the author making you do this or was that your choice?"
"Author?"
"Ah, never mind. Just a joke I wanted to tell." He winked, making a Elaine chuckle.
