The Alestian's Bane - Chapter Zero

-TAB-

Start of A Legend

If there's one thing I knew in my 19 years of life, its that I would never let myself break a promise.

...That, and that I hated perverts; after all, I was raised by a proper Eurasian family.

Its been a while since I was last in Japan. Kuoh Town... I wonder if I still have friends here.

Well, I'm fired up!

Ryutensei James Henderson-Shock.

One long and complicated name, for an intriguing and complex being. He was flying into Kuoh Town to keep one promise he made to his first and only friend. It was a bit late, but he only hoped she'd forgive him on that front... assuming she remembered him.

'No, Ryuuto. Stay positive. We were as thick as thieves, she wouldn't forget me that easily, not with the Amulet I gave her.' He thought to himself, shaking his head. Once he and his mother landed and got situated in their old home, Emily Henderson smiled.

"Go on son, get to school before you're late. We already had to deal with signing you up late, after all. Don't want the Council hounding you, do you?" Emily said, a knowing glint in her eyes.

"Right, right." Ryu sighed as he went into his suitcase and pulled out the Kuoh Academy uniform. His expression changed to a barely repressed grimace. "Ugh, uniforms. Do I have to go to this school mom?"

"Do you want to find Rias-chan?" The pale violet haired woman said calmly, though she knew she was manipulating her son. Ryu winced.

"Fine, I'll go." He went to his room, bringing along his suitcase, and changed, seeing his childhood home hadn't changed a bit since he left. He then looked into his suitcase again, seeing one simple oak wood box within. He opened it to see a silvery-gold key attached to a string, a necklace. He put it around his neck and hid the key under his uniform, as he looked at himself in the house's built-in mirror.

Still the same person he knew himself to be. Never changed much. He was best described as a strange-looking teenager, and he knew it. He was pretty tall, standing at 6 foot 1 inch. He inherited a mix of his mother's hair and his grandfather's, with spiky extremely pale violet hair and a thick strand of red hair hovering in between his eyes. His build was okay, in his opinion, not too muscular... but he wasn't a thin pretty boy either. His eyes were yellow-green, apparently inherited from his grandfather, akin to a lime. Ryuuto sighed, grabbing some hair gel to get rid of his strand, mixing it into the rest of his hair; so now there was just a simple streak.

"Look just like you, gramps." He chuckled, as he felt prepared for a day of school and left. He felt the eyes on him from girls and boys alike, frowning. If there was one thing he hated, it was that there seemed to be some aura around him that made people interested in him. Everywhere he went, he got into some kind of situation where someone tried to ask him out. He always rejected them, of course. He only had eyes for one person, but even then... it was questionable if that would get him anywhere.

The moment he got to school, he immediately went to go get his papers and schedule. He found himself in Third Year, which if he was right, meant he had a really good chance of seeing Rias if she still attended as he hoped.

Ryu had no idea what he'd get himself into that day, though.

It was official, he hated standard schooling.

Seriously, it was such a bore compared to homeschool. Not to mention stressful. Back with his parents, he'd just be taught and tested whenever he felt ready. Now, he had to look out for things such as 'pop quizzes' and all that jazz.

It pissed him off. Ryu sighed. "Well, at least I survived. So that's a plus." He then focused. "Alright, let's see what path will lead me to my destined Fate. Sight!" He called out silently, his eyes changing color as they burned a bloody crimson color. Suddenly, his world changed, as he saw hundreds upon thousands of strings around the school, different pathways, and destinies for every student around him. It was an ability he found both useful, and scary.

After all, being able to know everything that'll happen to people takes the fun out of living. It also makes you wary of making friends, afraid you'll lose them. But he did make sure to use it at times when around large numbers of people or people he cared for, in case there was a death that he could prevent. This ability, as he called it Destiny Warp, was a gift from the Heavens. He was sure of it.

Ryuuto then found the Occult Research Club after some time, sensing Rias' specific and untainted Fate radiating from the room, along with the Amulet he gave her. He smiled, going to say hi, but stopped when he heard voices. Both vaguely familiar to him. It was Rias and Akeno. He took a deep breath and entered, following the sounds of the voices and staring when he saw his friend.

She hated her fate, she cursed it. He could see it visibly, even without activating Destiny Warp. The strings around her were black and twisted, ready to snap along with her entire soul. Rias looked up at him, as his own yellow-green eyes softened as they stared into blue, ignoring Akeno out of concern for his old friend. "Rias..."

Rias looked at him for a bit, before her eyes widened. "Ryu?"
