Lillian's P.O.V

I can't believe I thought a guy would actually like me. But that's what I got myself into coming here.

"Hey Lilly?" Matthew comes into my room. I'm sitting on the bed alone and he comes and sits next to me. I lean my head on his shoulder. "I wanted to ask you something."

"Hmm?" I ask.

"Is it okay if Maya comes with when we go shopping this weekend?"

"Sure."

"She's probably better at picking out teenage girl clothes than me." He laughs. "What's wrong? Tough day?"

"I just," I sigh.

"Tell me Lilly."

"I didn't know Hayes had a girlfriend."

He's silent for a moment. "Oh."

"Yeah."

"Do you like him?"

"I don't even know. It's just that boys never look at me like that and I thought since Hayes didn't know about my suicide he wouldn't think something was wrong with me and he would actually try and get to know me."

"Come here." he says and pulls me onto his lap. "Lillian Espinosa, you do not need a boy to make you happy. You're perfectly fine on your own."

"I never said I needed a boy to be happy it was just nice for a while because you were busy with your girlfriend and Hayes was nice to me."

"Aw gimme a hug Lil." Matt hugs me as best as he can with me sitting on his lap. At that moment Hayes walks into the room.

Right away he sees us. "Oh sorry am I interrupting something?" He asks concerned.

"No I was just leaving." Matt says and lifts me off of his lap. "Hayes can I talk to you in the hall really quick?"

Hayes looks a little scared, but nods his head and leaves with Matthew.

Hayes' P.O.V

I exit my room with Matthew nervous because of what he might have said to Lillian and what he's going to say to me. Once we're in the hallway and out of Lillian's earshot, Matt turns to me.

"Stop messing with Lillian." Matt tells me.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"I mean enough with the pet names and the winking and the compliments. You have a girlfriend Hayes so why do you keep flirting with my sister?"

"I- I guess I kind of like her..." I trail off and Matt doesn't say anything. "I know we basically just met but I'd really like to get to know her better, and maybe as more than a friend." I stop and look at Matthew waiting for his response.

"Hayes, I wasn't being serious the other day. I'm not that guy who will beat you up if you even look at his sister. But you can't mess with her head like this she's sensitive and she's never had a boyfriend and I don't want her first experience with one to be terrible."

"It won't be I'll be a gentleman and I'd never hurt her."

"I trust you Hayes. I mean we're friends and I've known you for a while. But you and Courtney need to be broken up. For good."

"What do you mean for good?" I ask him, unsure of what he meant.

"C'mom man. Just because I've been in Virginia doesn't mean the other boys don't tell me what's going on. You and Courtney have broken up and gotten back together four times since you met her. And you didn't meet her that long ago. So prove to me that she's out of your life for good and I'll be your wingman with Lillian."

"Huh. That was easy." I chuckle.

"Hayes, we're bros you can talk to me about anything even if it's dating my sister. Oh god that sounds weird." Matthew laughs.

"I guess I'll go apologize to her. Courtney was kind of mean today."

"See you tomorrow man." Matt says and heads towards his room.

I go back to my room with the intention of apologizing to Lillian, but I find her asleep on the bed. Not wanting to wake her up I decide to sleep and apologize in the morning.
