Scared and frightened, I squeezed my sister Elsa's hand harder. As a fluffy haired lady walked upon the stage that was covered in bits of coal dust, her loud voice went through all the speakers. "Welcome everyone! Ugh! You people really need a cleaner stage. My exclusive dress is turing black from these bits of...um."
"Coal," someone shouted.
"Ah, yes. Coal. Well anyway, welcome, welcome to the reaping of the 76th hunger games! No applause? Really? Whatever. Ladies first! Let's see..." Effie walked as quickly as her heels could take her to the glass bowl filled with name of terrified young girls. "And remember, this is a new rule. No volunteering, whoever is chosen must participate." Effie's long gloved fingers wrapped around a slip of paper that can determine one's life or death.
"Congratulations to our first winner, Emma Hills!" I trudged up the aisle my heart racing. I kept my head down at all times, frightened to see everyone's staring eyes pointed at me. I slowly dragged myself onto the stage. "Okay, time for our next tribute! Who's the lucky guy?" Her fingers reaches once more into a glass bowl. I kind of went fuzzy there, stopped thinking, got a major headache. But anyway, his name is Neil oh well, I forget his last name. So for everyone else, they are safe until next year, next reaping. For me and Neil, safe for a week.
Neil and I loaded onto the marble train. He seemed like a pretty nice guy, but I didn't really know him that well. I didn't trust him just yet. "So uh, you wanna be allies? I'm gonna need some help in that arena," explained a desperate Neil.
"Well, I'll have to think about it. I will see you in the training room."
