Goodnight

The house is quiet.
And dark.
Yet the sound of the stairs
Seemed to fill the house.
Squeak
Squeak
Squeak.
Before I went to bed,
I wanted to check on my princess.
To see if she was ok.
I was wrong
My princess wasn't ok.
She was anything but ok.
I open the door,
To find something horrifying
On the other side.
I wanted to scream.
I needed to scream.
But it wouldn't come,
I know it won't come.
I try not think about what I've seen.
But I can't.
It's too horrific.
I put the light on
And walked towards her.
It was safe.
They were gone.
I put my hand on her forehead,
Wanting to see if she was here.
She wasn't here,
She was far gone.
A tear dropped out of my eye
And onto the child's face.
I tried to take them away,
By they just kept coming out.
This couldn't be real,
This can't happen,
To me,
To her,
To our family.
She shouldn't of left.
Another tear slips out as I whisper
"Goodnight dear.
Sweet dreams.
I'll see you soon."
