The lunch line was as busy as ever. It took a full twenty minutes, start to finish, for a stacked tray to get into my hands. Of course, standing in line was not my favorite thing in the world, and I couldn't wait to sit down and dig in to this tasty, tasty food. For this reason, I really wasn't paying attention much to the people around me.
"Wow, Lunch Rush really outdid himself today. This food is great!" A voice, not unlike Midoriya's, leapt out of the cafeteria's normal babble. I turned quick to see him, Iida, and Uraraka coming from the crowded line.
Midoriya waved to me and approached, still nodding along with Iida's advice on "regulating calorie intake" or something else responsible.
"Hey, (Y/n)! Want to eat with us?" He gestured to an empty table. The other two stood behind Midoriya, patient for my answer.
I thanked him for the offer, but told them I already had a table with some others in class 1-A. "I wouldn't want to keep Kir- the group waiting."
Uraraka, obviously catching my slip-up, beamed in her usual way. "We totally understand," she chimed and guided the boys away.
As soon as they were gone, I shivered at just how awkward I can be. Wow, I'm a such dork. I just hope he doesn't notice.
Thankfully, as we all know, food pretty much solves everything. With hunger as a motivation, I pushed those thoughts away for the moment and wandered to our usual spot.
I walked and wondered how things were going to be today. For some reason my main group of friends had been acting very... strange recently. Ashido just kept staring at me at lunch, so did Kirishima. The too-cool-for-basically-everything Bakugou was disinterested as usual, but I preferred that. If he had started paying attention to me too, I was going to have to check them for mind control devices.
I just about reached the table and was behind the dividing wall, before I felt that slight tingle of insecurity. I checked my shirt, my hair, my breath. Good, good, good. It was all good, and from what I could tell, they had no reason to stare at me.
After my self inspection, I took a step forward and was ready to move into their view when I heard Ashido say something that made my heart stop.
"So, when are you going to ask her out, Kirishima!?"
I heard a mumble from the guy in question, but it was Bakugou that answered.
"We don't have time for that gooey love crap, Ashido" he grumbled.
"Psh. That's just your excuse for being bad with girls, Bakugou. I think they would make a cute couple!
I winced, knowing what was going to follow.
"WHO SAID I WAS BAD WITH GIRLS!?! I COULD GET A HUNDRED GIRLFRIENDS BEFORE THE RED REJECT OVER HERE!!!"
Ashido giggled at this outburst, finally responding, "That's a lot of dates. Are you sure you have that kind of money, Lord Explosion Murder?"
Just when I was sure Bakugou would explode and take the whole cafeteria with him, Kirishima piped up.
"Alright, alright, guys. I'll ask her today, and if she's not into it, that's that." His voice betrayed a hint of nervousness as he continued. "A man's gotta learn to face his fears sometime. That's the right thing to do."
The two seemed to accept this answer, and the argument faded into silence. That wasn't going to last long however. Ashido quickly realized they were missing their usual dorky topic changer and asked the boys where I was.
Never was I more thankful for the hedge-topped wall that blocked me from their sight. I decided that I would be too shaky to sit down and pretend I hadn't caught anything of their conversation. Instead, I spun around, heading towards the seat next to Midoriya, pleading with my food to stay hot.
They didn't ask me any questions and I didn't hesitate to jump into their group.
Lunch sped by as quickly as it usually did, and we were back in the classroom, listening to a droning lecture on Hero Ethics, before we knew it. My ears and eyes were occupied with capturing Aizawa's contagiously drowsy presentation, but my thoughts floated over to their usual subject.
Normally, Kirishima was slumped in his chair, listlessly scribbling something down that may or may not have been class-relevant. A quick glance told me today was different. He was sitting bolt upright and attentive despite having heard the same lecture over and over in past. He soaked up each of Aizawa's dull points, writing them furiously in his notebook. His concentration left room for nothing else.
The conversation I overheard at lunch began to loop in my head as it had all day, and I decided I would follow Kirishima's example, pushing it away in favor of— I sighed— note taking.
The day's lessons were that strange mixture of simple and grueling. When I finally heard the bell, I had to check my phone calendar to make sure it was still the same year.
I got up sluggishly and waved good bye to everyone, with the notable exception of Kirishima. According to Bakugou the "fricken' spaz" practically ran out right after class.
Gathering up my things, I headed out towards the dorms. It wasn't a long walk, but it gave me a little time to think.
Part of me was glad that my friend had a chance at being even happier. A larger part of me was horrified that my crush might be taken by someone else.
It's not like I worshipped him or anything. He was a cool dude who was kind, not to mention cute, and I liked him. That was all. Still, that didn't mean it wouldn't sting.I'll get over it... in time. I consoled myself. My heart whispered that it could be me he was asking, but I shoved that aside. It didn't want to get any more hurt that I was going to be.
I arrived at the dorms and hurried up to my room where my feel good snacks would be waiting.
Standing in front of my door though was a unexpected figure. Kirishima, looking a bit frazzled, was hovering around the entrance to my room. He tapped his feet and fiddled with something in his pocket. Once he saw me, his eyes widened and he smiled sheepishly.
"Hey, (Y/n)," he said, "funny meeting you here!"
I assumed he was joking, seeing as he was standing right next to a door with my name on it. I laughed a little, but let him talk.
He wasted no time diving into why he was there. "I need to ask you something."
My stomach dropped. Was he really asking me out here and now?! I did my best to let out a shaky breath and calm my trembling.
If he noticed, he didn't say anything. Instead he leaned in close, close enough to prevent Ashido a few doors down from hearing, close enough to make my heart dance. That's when he said something I had anticipated all along.

Alright, first part is over. There is another one coming. I know I've been gone a long time, but Im trying a new writing style, and I think that will really help me get back into the swing of things. Please, give me some feedback, if you'd like. It's genuinely appreciated. See you in the next part!
