It was the second day of fall semester and accordingly I wore my second best outfit. I got to CMSC216 early because I wanted a good seat since I'd be sitting here for more than two and a half hours. I sat in the middle of the middle row, just the perfect spot to see everything being taught. As I was unpacking my computer, a cute guy sat next to me. I decided not to make a big deal out of this because I'd decided that I'd only make friends with girls this semester and that I wouldn't actively try to get a boyfriend. A girl sat on my left just as class was starting. My professor started off by telling us to introduce ourselves to our neighbors with our name, pronouns, and major. The girl to my left introduced herself and she seemed nice. After introducing myself to her, I introduced myself to the cute guy on my right.

"Hi, I'm Stacy. I go by she/her pronouns and I'm a computer science and linguistics double major."

"I don't see why we have to introduce ourselves with pronouns. I mean you're obviously a girl and I'm obviously a boy." he replied.

"It's to normalize trans and nonbinary people saying their pronouns."

"Well I just don't get why us normal people should be forced to do it. It's a waste of time. Anyway, my name's Steve and I'm a compsci major."

"Well Steve, I personally know quite a few trans people and a lot of the time you wouldn't know they're trans. So I think it's always important to clarify pronouns. Anyway nice to meet you."

Just then the professor started talking again and I forced myself to pay attention to class and take notes on my computer. After CMSC216 was over, I had 15 minutes to just sit and wait for CMSC250. The girl on my left left but Steve stayed. He must be in the same 250 class.

"Hey I'm sorry about earlier. I'm just not really familiar with all this 'trans' stuff. It sounds like a bunch of attention-seeking bullshit if you ask me." he started.

"Well it's not. Just take my word for it."

"Do you have any proof?"

I showed Steve studies that proved trans people have brains that are closer to the gender they identify as.

"Wow I never would've thought there would be any backing for stuff like this. It just seems totally based on feelings to me."
"Even if it were based totally on feelings how would that make it any less valid? Don't you care about other people's feelings?"

"Oh, now I'm the bad guy. I just think we should have a scientific backing for things like this."

"Well there is so please just rethink how you treat trans people."
"It's not like I know any though."

"You know me."

"Lmao there's no way you're trans. I know a crossdresser when I see one."
"First of all being trans is way different from crossdressing. Second of all I am trans. I was born with a guy's body. That's why I'm so tall and have a deep voice."

"I guess that makes sense."

Then our next class began. After 250 we both left.
