How can anything so deadly feel so normal to others? How can a virus like this make people doubt themselves but at the same time make others be so reckless? Madeline wondered all those thoughts as she sat home doing the same routine over, over, again.
“Why can’t I just go outside, it's not like it’s going to kill me, it's legit just oxygen and sunlight.” Alex her brother wined while tugging onto the blackout curtains.
“Alex! don’t it’s dangerous!” she pulled the teen back before the light escaped from the darkness. “Are you serious Madeline!? I just wanted to peek out the window to see if anything new happened, you don’t have to be so protective of me. I'm not as crazy as Issac. I'm not going to surrender my soul to the darkness out there’’ she cringed at the name of her ex-boyfriend. Issac, who was just as curious as her brother was, one night he decided to break all the community of summer hills rules. He tore down every blackout curtain in his sight he died from too much sunlight blistering his skin.
“I know you-won’t be crazy as Issac, But just trust me to stay away from the windows you don’t know what’s out there-”
“Neither do you Madeline! So how would you know what’s best for me?" She put her fingers to the crease of her temple, a thing she tends to do nowadays from her anxiety of surviving this.
“ You didn’t see his body that day, his skin was peeled and bubbly. I could barely recognize him, I’m not going to let the same happen to you. Now go to bed” she didn’t want to lose any more people after she already lost her parents in a car accident when she was 6 and her last relative on her dad’s side just died a year ago, she was left as the Guardian of a 15-year-old boy.
She was always curious just like her brother of what’s out there, Is It mythical creatures or Extraterrestrial? She checked the grandfather clock on the wall, 8:00 it read, she made her way to the blackout curtains and opened them, the moonlight shone making it noticed in her living room. She grabbed a flashlight and her boots silently making her way to the door making sure her brother didn’t find out about her sneaking out.
When she stepped out of the log cabin the brisk wind slapped her face, she pulled back the strands of her hair that were sprawled out in her face making her blind for a few seconds. The wind escalated as she made her way towards the trees. She was so close to the nearest store when someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her towards them. “What do you think you're doing out here!?” a deep male voice yelled at her, she looked up at him glaring.
“I was going to the store, We ran out of Ramen Noodles, something about the Sunlight isn’t safe and is affecting people night time is the only time I can actually go outside and get the necessary supplies I need” he pushed me to the ground I felt the dirt seep into my skin and a bruise starting to form.
“Turn around go back home, and don’t ever come out at night again, If I see you at night again I’ll make sure you get arrested” he spit on the ground before he left in his Land Combat vehicle
