Chapter 21

Tobi woke up with a groan. She then supported her body with her elbows on the ground. "ARTEMIS!!! YOU KICKED ME IN YOUR SLEEP!"

Artemis slowly opened his eyes and murmured drowsily, "Uh... no I didn't..."

"Yes you did! And it's your turn to make breakfast!"

"Whatever." He crawled out of his sleeping bag and took out some venison. He tossed some to Tobi and to Patience and Hassa. Patience immediately opened her eyes due to the smell of meat. She licked it lightly and started gnawing on it while Hassa was about to take a bite when a knife stabbed it from above. Startled, he stumbled back and growled. He stared at the sky and saw Vale sitting on a tree, one leg on top of another gazing down at him.

"My food now, winged bear," Vale said with a mysterious grin.

Hassa growled. "Who are you, human? And I'm not a bear, you idiot!"

Vale stood up and Hassa noticed how high he was. At least fifteen feet. The boy did a front flip off of the branch and spun a knife in his hand. He grabbed the deer meat and took a huge bite.

"H-Hey!" Hassa cried.

"Hassa?" Tobi called, rolling her eyes. "What's going o-" She stopped abruptly. She folded her arms, leering at Vale. "You again?"

Vale grinned. "Oh! We meet again, kid?"

"Shut it!" Tobi yelled, biting her lip. "I'm not a KID and I have a name you know! Now what do you want?!"

"Well what are you doing?"

"None of your business!"

"Tell me and I'll call you by your real name."

Tobi snorted. "You don't even know my real name."

"Of course I do," he smiled, leaning against a tree. "Tobi... isn't it?"

"What? How did you-"

"I heard your boyfriend cursing you out at midnight. He was saying your name. Now tell me, what are you doing?"

Tobi stomped her foot angrily. "Okay FIRST OF ALL, Artemis isn't my boyfriend! And second of all, why do you care?"

"Just tell me... kid."

"... I'm looking for my sister who got kidnapped! Happy? Now go away!"

"Sister? Hmmm... You look like you're in need of assistance from a fighter like me." Tobi narrowed her eyes at him. "I could help... but only if you give me something I've longed for..."

"You? Help us? Ha! When I tried helping you, you ran away!"

"Just... hear me out! I'll help you if you help me!"

"Um... what?! Why would I help you?" Tobi giggled.

"Look, you guys are getting NOWHERE with finding your sister," he declared, pushing himself off of the tree.  "I've STALKED you from afar-"

"Um... you did what now?"

"-and besides, I'm an excellent hunter." He motioned to Artemis, who was aiming for a rabbit. "Much better than him anyway." Artemis froze. "And I'm good at fighting, despite my 'blindness'. But with my cat, I have the best vision there is. So whaddya say?"

Tobi sighed. "You don't even know who and what we're dealing with."

"Tell me then."

"What? No. You won't even understand."

He gave her a slanted grin and crossed his arms. "Try me."

"...I'm good, thanks."

"C'mon."
