"Light it up!" The shout comes from Gally, the Keeper of the Builders.

He and his workers have been collecting lots, and I mean lots of wood for tonight's bonfire. The massive pile of wood is at least two meters high and three at the base, with every inch of it soaked in oil.

At Gally's cry, one of the boys I haven't talked to yet, pitches a burning torch into the pile. A loud 'whoomph' sounds and a pillar of fire erupts from where the torch lands.

All the boys cheer and I find myself joining in as the whole stack catches fire, sending a couple of boys who are standing too close scurrying back.

The boy who lit the fire jogs over to where I'm standing next to Minho. He has copper coloured hair, pale skin, wide green eyes, and an infectious grin on his face.

He sticks his hand out for me to take, and I shake it. "The names Ben, Greenie. How's Glader life treating you so far?" He asks, still grinning, and I smile back, it's impossible not too.

"Oh you know, I just wake up in a pitch black box with no memories, terrified out of my wits, no problem. But seeing this ugly shank looking down at me," I smirk at Minho, "Now that is what I call really terrifying".

Ben chuckles at that, and Minho cracks a smile, although he tries to hide it behind a hurt expression. "Shank huh? You're really settling in, aren't you?"

I smile at him, "Well, you calmed me down and stopped me murdering the entire Glade when I first came up, so I guess you can take some credit."

Ben groans, "Don't give him any more reasons for him to get an even bigger ego, Greenie. But I must admit, you were pretty scary when you started screaming at us all. Who would've thought a sweet little thing like you could get that sort of volume? I don't think my hearing will ever be the same again," he finishes mournfully.

I laugh as he walks away, and Minho hands me a jar of some unknown liquid. I look at it dubiously, "What's this stuff?" I ask and Minho shrugs.

"No one really knows, it's Gally's recipe. Some sort of alcohol though." Hesitantly I take a sip and choke, almost spitting it out. Quickly I swallow, and it burns its way down my throat.

Minho looks at me in surprise, "What?" I ask.

"No Greenie has been able to swallow that stuff first try," he says in some awe, and I shrug. "It's really not that bad when you get past the initial taste." To prove my point, I take another sip of the drink, this time swallowing with no effort.

He stares at me, then shaking his head, takes the jar from me and sets it down. "You might be crazy enough to like it, but that doesn't mean you won't feel it in the morning."

I agree, and we wander over to where a group of Gladers gatherers by the far side of the bonfire.

As we get closer, I can see that the group has surrounded a circle where two boys are fighting, trying to force each other out the ring or pin them until they surrender.

We reach them just as one of the boys throws the other to the ground and pins him so that he can't move. After a few seconds of struggling, the boy on the ground gives up, and the boy pinning him -who I now recognise to be Gally- releases him and turns around, walking back to the centre of the circle.

"Who's next?" He yells, and the circle goes quiet. Then one voice calls out, "You normally fight the Greenie, Gally. I don't see why it should be any different just because she's a girl!" The rest of the group yells their ascent, and even as I protest, I'm pushed into the circle.

Minho looks at me, then at the crowd who are chanting, "Greenie! Greenie! Greenie!" And back at me, slowly shaking his head. He won't be able to change their minds.

I look back to Gally, who's smirking at me in a satisfied way, like he already knows he's won, and I bristle.

Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't fight!

I glare at Gally. I know I can't win, but I also know I won't go down without a good, hard fight. Then Gally rushes at me and the crowd shouts in excitement.

I narrow my eyes, trying to block out the noise.

Just as he's about to grab me, I whip my arm forward and smash my clenched fist into his side. He grunts in pain, and I see his eyes widen in surprise as I leap away before he can grab at me.

The crowd howls as I ready my stance, bringing my hands up in front of me. Gally watches me warily now, and I know he won't try another mad rush; so instead, I surprise him.

Stepping forward, I feint a punch with my left hand while stepping to my left and jabbing with my right. He's expecting the feint and ignores it, but my sideways step catches him off guard, and my right hand connects again with his side.

He hisses with pain, and glares at me with so much anger it surprises me. But instead of losing control, he funnels his anger and directs it into fighting smart. We circle each other, sometimes feinting a punch or kick, but always dancing away before the action connects with either of us.

I find -with some surprise- that I'm actually enjoying myself. My blood is up, and my senses peaked. We duck and dodge, occasionally landing a blow here and there, but never clashing for more than a few seconds. Then suddenly a loud cry from behind me distracts me from the fight.

I spin around to see what it was; and too late I realise it was a trick from one of Gally's friends.

I start to turn back around as I hear rushing footsteps, and try to leap to the side to dodge him, but he catches me around the middle and slams me into the ground, twisting my arm behind me and putting his knee into my back to hold me down.

After a few seconds of struggling, I let myself go limp, signalling that I'm done fighting. Removing his knee, Gally stands and looks down at me as I roll onto my back in the dust. "Not bad Greenie," he says, sounding impressed "Not bad at all." Grinning at me, he sticks out his hand to help me to my feet.

I groan, then smile at him, accepting his hand and letting him pull me up. "I have no idea why, but that was the most fun I've had all night."

Gally laughs at that, "Fighting can do that for you, especially if you're good at it," he says and flashes me another approving look, "And you definitely are."

I blush and look down, "Thanks, Gally." He raises his eyebrows, " Know my name already do you? Well, that's hardly fair because I don't know yours."

I sigh, "I've already said this, I don't remember my..." I trail off, suddenly realising that I DO remember my name. I turn around, looking for Minho, and when I see him, I sprint towards him, shouting, "I remember my name!!"

Minho turns toward me, a surprised look on his face that quickly turns to joy. He wraps his arms around me as I catch him in a tight hug. Then I feel another pair of arms slip around us, and I look up in surprise to see Ben. He's grinning and laughing, obviously delighted that I remember my name.

"Well, don't keep us waiting!" He cries, "What's your name??" The other Gladers gather around, grinning at me as I extract myself from the hug. Expectant looks are everywhere, and I laugh, elated that I finally know who I am.

"My name's Y/N!!"
