"Is something the matter?"
Lucifer's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "Nothing. Absolutely nothing." She hastily replied. I don't want anyone here knowing this.
"Ooh, it's that Luciel guy you mistook Lucifer for, right? Is he your boyfriend?" Asmo playfully cooed. Shit. "No. Not my boyfriend. Someone I know." Saphyra replied. She saw Diavolo raise an eyebrow at that statement. What's that about? She decided not to question it.

"It seems that the idiot has arrived." Lucifer broke in blandly. The doors slammed open to reveal a white-haired, tanned young demon. "HEY! Just WHO do you think you are, human? You've got a lot of nerve summoning the Great Mammon!"
"The great moron, more like." Saphyra muttered. Asmo cackled at those words. "Look at you, Mammon! Even the human roasts you at every  opportunity!" Satan suppressed an ever widening grin on his face. "Shaddup, all of you!" He turned to Saphyra. "You really wanna die here, don't you? I'll forgive all those insults if you hand all your money to me. And anything else of value." Saphyra crossed her arms. "Yeah, I got nothing. And I owe you nothing. So I don't need to."
"And no one is going to raise as much as a hand to her, or they'll answer to me, understood?" Lucifer broke in with surprising ferocity.
Silence.

Even for someone who was simply doing his job, his tone seemed... Too harsh. She noticed an... Understanding  look on Diavolo's face. Like something he had been thinking just got confirmed.

What is going on here? Are they hiding something from me?

"So. Who is this guy, anyway?" Saphyra broke the silence. Everyone seemed to break out of their shocked trance. Satan smirked. " 'This guy' is the Avatar of Greed. He oversees all forms of it. Should he take a liking to someone, they'll find themselves awash with money. But from what I hear, if he decides to break it off from someone, that wealth evaporates. They're left without a Grimm to their name." Grimm. That must be the currency of this place. "He's also a masochist. That part's important." Saphyra raised an eyebrow. "Interesting priorities, Asmodeus, though since you're the Avatar of Lust, I suppose that's to be expected." He giggled. "You got it right, sugar."
"Indeed. And I happen to have a job for my masochist of a brother." Lucifer said, turning to Mammon. "Y'all, stop telling lies. I'm not a masochist!"Mammon protested. I dunno, buddy. The Avatar of LUST is saying that. "Mammon, you going to be in charge of seeing to this human's needs during the exchange.I expect your full co-operation. " Lucifer went on. "What?! Why me?!" Mammon exclaimed. Saphyra slapped her hand on her forehead. "I already said this on the DDD." She exhaled. "Shut it, human!" Mammon looked annoyed. Saphyra shrugged. "I'm not being the idiot here." "You want me to look after her?" Mammon gaped at an amused Lucifer. " Yes, you're supposed to look after her." He echoed, mockingly. "Aw, lucky! I'm so jealous." Asmodeus pouted. "Alright then, why don't you do it, Asmodeus?!" Mammon questioned. "What? Hell no, too lazy." Avatar of Lust, or Sloth? Since there are Seven Deadly Sins. I don't even know any more. "I thought you said you were jealous of me?" He snarked. "Give it up, Mammon. You can't get out of this one. You know you can't oppose a direct command from Lucifer, correct? " Satan reasoned. "Well, what about Beel? Why can't he do it?!" Mammon pushed on. "This isn't a job we can entrust to Beel. We might as well ask him to eat this human." Asmodeus tutted. "Yeah, I can't say I wouldn't." Beelzebub admitted. Plus points for honesty, I guess? I'm gonna have to avoid this guy. "You're useless, you know that?!" Mammon huffed. "Mammon." Lucifer's voice was dangerously soft. "Surely you're not going to tell me that you object to this arrangement?" A powerful aura grew around Lucifer, his expression hardening, eyes slitting, eyebrows knitting in anger. Saphyra involuntarily took a few steps back. She then noticed the look in his eyes as his irises briefly glanced at her.

Pain? Regret?
Or was she crazy?

"Ugh! I hate you guys. Fine. FINE! I'll do it, okay?!" Mammon gave in. "Listen up, human. As much as I don't want to look after you, I've got no choice. It's a huge pain in the ass, and I'm too important for this kind of thing, but Lucifer told me to do it, so I will." Saphyra sighed. " Your claim to importance is... Questionable, considering, well, everything I've observed so far." Saphyra pointed out.

"Do you always talk back like this?"
"Do you always act stupid?"

Amused silence.

"Mammon, I get it. You don't want to look after me. I don't particularly like you. So let's do this. I won't cause you trouble, you do the same. Your job will be easier. Is that fine?" Saphyra offered. "Hey! You don't get to make the rules here." Mammon protested. She shrugged. "Do you want this to be easier, or no?" "Don't sass me, human!" Saphyra scowled. "Do you want this to be easier, or no?"

Stunned silence.

"Fine, fine! I heard ya." Mammon conceded. "I let you have your way one time, but don't forget who's the boss here, human!" He continued. Saphyra was too tired to argue. "Sure. Whatever."

Lucifer watched their exchange intently, then spoke up. "Now that we have decided who will take care of you, on to the next subject: Your tasks." Saphyra nodded. "What are these tasks, exactly?"
"Your task is to polish up your soul nicely and acquire the ability to resist demons." Saphyra looked confused. "Polish up my soul? Could you elaborate, please? " Lucifer nodded. "Demons like humans with nice souls. Think of it this way: Nice souls look like shiny jewels. Do you understand now?" Saphyra nodded slowly, taking this in. "Okay. So I have to learn to make my soul... Desirable to them, and also learn to resist them." Lucifer nodded. "That is correct." Saphyra furrowed her brows in thought. "I have two questions. May I ask them?" "Go ahead." Lucifer replied. "So, other demons at R. A. D. Have tasks assigned to them, right? And I'm supposed to go up against them." Lucifer nodded. "That is correct." Saphyra took it in. "And, what happens if I fail a task?" "There is no penalty set. Would you like me to think of one?" His eyes gleamed dangerously. Saphyra shook her head. "No, thank you. Just making sure I'm not risking my life doing these tasks. I'd kind of be doing that here on a daily basis."
"I'm glad you understand that Devildom and R. A. D. Can be potentially dangerous for a human." Did he actually sound impressed? "But as far as the tasks go, my brothers and I will lend you our power, considering the fact that you have no magic of your own, unlike the other exchange student from the human world." Solomon. Saphyra remembered.
Lucifer seemed to kind of- smile, as he said, "To see is to believe, so why don't you give those tasks a try, Saphyra?"

I wonder what these tasks will be. A fight using spells and illusions? A battle of wits? I'll admit, I'm a bit nervous and excited.
