The forest was silent. A slight breeze rushed across the trees, rustling the evergreen branches. Lunetta stared up at the stars, immersing herself in the calm peace of her home. She closed her eyes and listened to the hum of the nature surrounding her. The lights on Tyndarus shone brightly, leading all that wandered close upon its path. She saw a figure coming out from inside the giant tree. Hal sauntered over to the silver haired faerie. His shadowy frame emerged into the light, giving Lunetta a full view of his ebony locks and large build. "My darling Luna. What is on your mind? I could practically hear your thoughts from inside." Hal teased lightly. He towered over her by a foot but that didn't terrify her. She felt safe whenever he was around. They had met when they were young faeries, Hal instantly connecting with her. Lunetta, over time, grew fond of the boy who called her by the nickname "Luna". He had told her it reminded him of the night sky and the silver mist that sheltered their forest home. "I was just enjoying the serenity of the night." Hal gave her a small, charming, smile. She thought back to when they were children and recalled the first time he had told her about his feelings. Lunetta was surprised at his forwardness but accepted his feelings. She knew deep down that she felt the same towards the boy. How she adored his smile, the way his dimples would cave in and how his pearly white teeth sparkled under the moonlight. "Of course," He said, pulling Lunetta into his arms. "Tonight is a night of celebration. We are so close, my love." Lunetta let herself melt into his strong arms. She took in his scent and peered into his ember eyes. They twinkled with excitement and wonder. Lunetta couldn't help but feel her own eyes twinkle with the same light of excitement. They had waited years for this moment. "I've prepared everything inside Tyndarus." Hal spoke, his sultry voice filling her ears. "Then what are we waiting for?" Lunetta inquired, smiling fondly up at him. The two made their way into the vast roots and hollowness of Tyndarus where the opening was concealed with large, carmine leaves. Hal created an entryway and guided Lunetta into the center of their home tree. A massive fire was lit inside, allowing Lunetta to feel the ecstasy of her powers surging through her body. Faeries were split up by sects. Each sect controlled one of the four elements, giving each faerie born into that sect the ability to yield that element as a power. Lunetta was born into the Fire sect. Both her parents had been fire faeries whereas Hal was born of the Earth sect. "I thought the fire would help." Hal whispered softly into her ears. "It does," she replied. "Now, let's get on with it shall we." Hal responded by uncovering a small dungeon in the ground which was covered by the tree's roots. Inside, two captives sat frightened, huddled in a corner. A male with his arms protectively around the female. Hal smiled a wicked smile. "One is missing an ear." Lunetta said out loud to no one in particular. "Yes, sorry about that, Luna my love. I was getting impatient and they weren't cooperating. Truly, it shouldn't be a big concern right?" "No, none whatsoever. It was just an observation, darling," she said. "Let them out, then. Can't you see they're confused." Hal noticed the small hint of a sadistic smile ready to emerge from his lover's face, encouraging him to let the two captives out of their cage. Using his powers, Hal pulled them out with the roots and set them beside the fire, still entangled in the roots. "Who are you." The male captive whispered. "I'm not sure you're asking the right questions, love." Lunetta could feel it now. The pulse of their hearts. Their fear. It only grew as Hal and Lunetta inched closer. "What she's trying to say is, you don't want to know who we are." Hal breathed softly behind the male. "You want to know... what we are." He emphasized. Lunetta looked at the ravenette faerie. His eyes large and ready. "Wh-what are you?" The female captive finally spoke. "We're faeries." Lunetta answered. "Faeries? But aren't you supposed to be protectors? Why are you doing this?" "Is that the myth you humans tell each other?" Hal laughed. He turned to Lunetta and found that she too was amused by the answer of the human. "Whatever you humans believe, I don't care. We don't have much time so let's keep things simple shall we?" Lunetta said walking slowly towards the female captive. "You're here because we need two human hearts. Pure hearts to be more precise. Hal and I have been searching for years and finally you two show up. It's perfect really. Two pure human hearts that happen to be a newly wedded couple? No children yet I presume?" "I-" "Nevermind that. It wouldn't really matter anyway." "You need our hearts!?" They were shaking now, Lunetta could barely contain her excitement and neither could Hal. "Yes, indeed love. Right now to be more exact." She unleashed herself. Lunetta rushed towards the female captive while Hal held onto her companion. Lunetta ripped out the heart instantly, the girl's eyes left wide open as her breath left her body. A scream rippled after. "You monster! I hope you burn in hell!" The male captor yelled at Lunetta. She stared at the heart beating ever so slightly in her hand. No longer could she contain her wicked smile. Her elongated teeth now shown as she looked at the male captive. She gave the heart to Hal and crouched down to face the male. No fear shown on his face, just pure rage and anger towards her. Lunetta couldn't help but laugh at him. "As if feeding on your rage will help you," She said matter-of-factly. "Be grateful she died quickly. No suffering really. You on the other hand. My husband here," she pointed towards Hal, who's teeth had elongated,"- doesn't like being merciful." Lunetta walked over to Hal and took the heart from him. She looked up at him and smiled. "He's all yours, my love." Hal charged towards the male captive. Lunetta watched as he ripped him limb by limb. Screams filled the entire forest. Though, she knew that no help would come, knowing too well that the silver mist that covered the forest shielded them from the humans. Hal continued his monstrous deed while Lunetta sat down and picked up the dead female's body. She cradled it in her arms, setting down the heart beside the fire pit. She grabbed the girl's arm and sank her ripper teeth into the flesh. Tendons ripped and bones crushed inside her mouth. She turned to Hal to see his progress and noticed the male captive had momentarily stopped screaming. His legs and arms were no longer attached to his body. She noticed the ivory familiarity of his bones sticking out in places that weren't normal. He was bleeding out slowly when finally Hal sliced off his other ear, acquiring one last final howl before the ravenette faerie completely tore out the captive's heart. Lunetta placed the girl's body down and walked up to Hal. She wiped a smear of blood that was on his face. "We can save the bodies for later. I am still beyond famished," She exclaimed. Hal nodded his head, not being able to utter a word, his whole body racking with euphoria from the events that took place. Lunetta grabbed the heart and tossed it in the fire, Hal following right after. "Inceptinius consiucio Tyndarus expim oppresiseo," Lunetta chanted five times. Hal looked down at her and smiled. It was a proud smile. "We did it. We can finally have our child." He said to her sweetly. Lunetta felt the presence of Tyndarus enter her. It had heard and answered their prayers. After years of failures and rejections. "We did it," She echoed. "Our child." Hal bent down and kissed her, engulfing her in his arms. Lunetta fell deeper into the kiss, grabbing onto the collar of his shirt and bringing him closer. He tasted of human blood mixed with the earth of Tyndarus and she couldn't get enough. They whispered their precious promises in secret as the fire only grew with the passion Lunetta felt in her soul. ✧ The faerie couple emerged from the inside the Tyndarus, the captives body parts enclosed in a sack which was carried by Hal over his shoulders. "Luna, my sweet." She looked up fondly at her beloved. "Shall we share the news to our families?" Lunetta pondered for a moment. "At first daylight, we shall. For now, let's just enjoy this moment." Hal nodded his head in agreement. The silver haired fairy stared into the sky. She placed herself down on the grassy roots of Tyndarus. She closed her eyes. She felt Hal find his place beside her. They lied down and watched the stars. The light of the Tyndarus tree had dimmed. The forest was silent.
