"Good morning honey! Shouldn't you be at college already?" came Reyna's mother's cheery voice. How people managed to be cheerful in the morning, Reyna had no clue. She hated mornings. And people. And people in the mornings, her mom was an exception tho.
"Selena's late again mom. Apparently Snowbell peed on her shoes." "Wow, this is what? The third time this is happening? That cat of hers must feel really insecure, having to mark his territory again and again" laughed her mom.
Reyna phone chimed, signalling a text from Selena. 'I'm almost there. Come down'. "Well, I must take my leave, Madre" exclaimed Reyna hugging her mom tightly. She was the only person who really understood her. "Eat something after class. Love you!" screamed her mom as Reyna rushed downstairs.
"You really need to keep your shoes out of Snowbell's reach" scoffed Reyna as she saw Serena hailing a cab. "I know I know!" Said Serena sheepishly. "Taxi" called out Reyna in her bold voice. It didn't stop.
"Let's Uber" suggested Serena tapping into her phone. "Taxi will be here in 10." she said. "10 minutes! We will miss like 15 minutes of Spanish...and that's a lot seeing as this is the third time we are gonna be late" grimaced Reyna, her voice rising.
"Hey it's on me. I'll tell the Prof okay?" retorted Serena.
The cab arrived in 10 and they got in. Serena took out her earphones and passed a earbud to Reyna who silently took it. Soon 'Boy with Love' began playing and Reyna couldn't help but smile. Serena couldn't tolerate kpop. This was her way of apologizing.
She finally emitted a laugh. "See! I'm really sorry!" Smiled Serena.
Night.
Reyna was scrolling down her Instagram feed when she got a call from Maya. "Hey" she said picking up the phone after 4 rings. She wanted to make it seem as though she were busy. Just one of the things she did.
"Reyna! Wanna hangout?" trilled Maya. "On a Monday night?" she scoffed. "Since when do we not hangout on weekdays!" Maya laughed. "Tell her to stop being such an ass and get here!" she heard Serena say in the background.
Serena. Maya and Serena were out together. Meaning she was the last person to be called.
Reyna tried to block out her inner voice pointing this out. Just as she had done numerous times since that incident. She couldn't help but feel insecure. "You know what guys?" Reyna said looking for an excuse. ",I promised Mom I'll help her cook this new recipe she found online. Maybe next time?" she offered.
"Okay no problem!" smiled Maya hanging up. "That was....fast" Reyna said aloud. "Plus she didn't even convince me. Some 'best friend'" she continued, her eyes brimming with tears.
"WHAT WENT WRONG!" she cried into the palms of her hands.
