She couldn’t help but smile as they walked into the square where the circus was. The sounds of laughter and the smell of food that would never be good for you wrapped around her mind. Her eyes looked over everything she could but there was so much to see and no time to look. Blue was moving quickly through the crowd of people, pulling her along behind him.
“Can’t we stop and look around?” She whined, turning her eyes to the back of the head.
His whiskers twitched in slight irritation as he shoved their way through a group of beings that were gathered together talking and laughing, “There is no time.”
Dani rolled her eyes and pulled out of his grasp, “There is plenty of time.” She planted her hands on her hips trying not to laugh when he turned to scowl at her, “Why is this so important to you anyways?”
“People’s lives are in danger Dani, the world isn’t going to just stop moving so you can have some fun. I know you miss this life… But if you don’t see the queen now, if you don’t talk to her and find out why you are here… Then you will never be able to get it back. Do you understand?” He studied her seeing that she was keeping a blank face, “Of course you don’t understand… You never tried to understand anything. As soon as things got bad you shut yourself off and didn’t bother to think, didn’t even try to figure out why certain things were happening. All you do is live behind that mask of yours, just like when you would perform.”
He stepped up to her and grabbed her hand again but lighter then he usually did, “Have you ever wondered if the world would be more magical if you took of your mask and saw it with clear eyes and heart for once?” She shook her head and looked away from him, “You should try it sometime… You might find that you like what you see…” Turning his back to her he started to walk again and she followed with no complaint this time.
The voices and warm laughter left her while she walked behind him. His words were true and she knew it but didn’t want to admit it. She had always had her mask and had never taken it down. Why would she want to see the world as it was? She knew that the world would be nothing but even more pain and hate. There was nothing magical about the real world.
A little girl with shimmering wings and pointed eyes stepped in front of them when they got to the end of the square. She had long lavender hair that fell in waves and pale blue eyes that peeked out from under her bangs. A soft smile was on her small heart shaped face that seemed to glow from her smile and happiness. She was holding something in her hands and reached them up to Dani to give it to her.
Dani looked at Blue first, not sure if she should be interacting with anyone since he was in such a hurry. But everything about he seemed to have softened at the sight of the girl, so he nodded his yes to her. A small smile curved her lips as she squatted down to take the gift. The girl stepped forward and instead of handing it to her she reached her hands up higher and slipped a necklace over Dani’s head.
Quickly she took a step back and smiled excitedly at Dani. She reached into a bag on her hip and took out a small wooden flute and placed it to her pale pink lips. Soft sweet notes drifted from the flute as she played a little bit before removing the flute. She waved at both of them then hurried off, disappearing in the large crowed.
Standing up, Dani looked down at the necklace. Its chain was made out of medal roses that were painted white. A crystal heart that seemed to change colors every second dangled from it. She ran her fingers over it gently and looked over at Blue when she heard his voice.
