Emersyn
I was halfway through my Monday when I heard yelling coming from the lobby. I moved away from my desk and went to the door. Malik glanced up at me. I gave him an inquisitive look to which he responded with a shrug. Before I could take a step forward, I was pushed back by a wave of electrical energy. Only two people in this state could do that and I knew for a fact that one of them was not in this city.
Octavia stormed around the corner with Sherri hot on her heels. Octavia was pissed and I kinda didn't blame her. I wasn't supposed to leave Minocqua without Octavian, but she didn't know what had happened between us.
"Hold my calls until I tell you otherwise. This could take a while. Also turn on the dampener in my office. I don't want an angry lightning goddess destroying my things because she doesn't like what I have to say," I said.
"Got it. I could try to replace some of her anger if you want," Malik suggested.
"Nah, without our electricity powers we're both just you everyday lycanthropes. She can't do too much damage," I said.
Malik nodded.
"Its fine, Sherri. Ms. Osther is a close friend of mine," I called.
Sherri looked skeptical but didn't argue with me. The rage in Octavia's eyes increased when she saw me. I wasn't afraid of Octavia Osther any more than she was afraid of me. I sighed; I had spent the last three days trying not to think about Octavian. Looking at his twin sister made my heart ache for him.
I didn't say anything when she reached where I was standing. I motioned for her to step into my office and shut the door behind us. I plopped down on my leather couch and waited for her to start. She looked confused for a second.
"I had a dampener installed in my office because your brother tends to blow things up when he's happy," I said.
Mentioning Octavian was the wrong thing to do. Her anger came back full force.
"YOU LEFT HIM THERE!?"
"First off, lower your voice when speaking to me. My tiger has no qualms with fighting you right here and now. Second off, your brother tried to shit on my life after flaking on me multiple times over the 8 days that I was stuck in that god forsaken town. Third off, there was no way I was going to stay with him after he hit me," I said.
Tavi stumbled as if I had struck her.
"Tell me everything that happened," she said quietly.
So, I did. I told her about the weird energy I had been sensing since Octavian and I had arrived on the estate. I told her about Octavian acting strange multiple times throughout our time there and I told her about the fight we had that made me pay almost 500 dollars just to get home because I couldn't stand it any longer.
"That doesn't sound like my brother," Tavi said, her anger lessened and was replaced by worry.
"Being around the other wolves did seem to affect him strangely. I've never felt happier or more powerful surrounded by other tigers but then again I'm not the rightful ruler of anything," I said.
"So, what do you think happened? You think he met someone up on the estate and he wanted to get rid of you so that he could be with her," Tavi asked.
"Or the stress of trying to find an enemy among his friends was just too much for him. I don't know and at that moment I was too hurt to care. If he hadn't implied that I wasn't good enough for him and then hit me, I might have stuck around to find out what the hell was going on," I said with a frown.
Tavi seemed lost in thought for a moment. My chest felt tight. I didn't want to think of Octavian with another female. I hoped there was something else to explain his behavior and that he would come back to Milwaukee seeking my forgiveness though admittedly it wouldn't take much for me to forgive him. My flesh was weak when it came to him.
"Damn it. I should have gone with him," Tavi said.
"I don't know how that would have helped. Hell, you could still just go up there and drag his butt home," I said.
She thought about that for a moment.
"And he hasn't tried to call you or anything since you left," she asked.
"Nope. Though admittedly I put him on my block list when I was upset but it would still show a missed call from him. It's been 4 days and I haven't heard anything," I said.
"That could be is his pride being hurt though, too," she said.
"Have you heard from him," I asked.
"He promised to check in with me once a week on Wednesday, so we still have a couple of days before he's supposed to."
She sighed.
"I'll come back after I hear from him or not," she said, heading for the door.
"I'll let you know if I hear from him, too," I said.
She nodded and left.
Two days later she called to tell me that she had talked to her brother and he mentioned that he was following a new lead but didn't tell her what it was. He also didn't mention the fact that I had left or why. He told her to give him a month before he would come home but promised to keep checking in every week.
My feelings were even more hurt that he didn't bother to contact me or even seemed to care about me at all. I spent the next few weeks forcing myself to remember that we were only in it for the sex... Yeah... Just sex... I didn't have real feelings for him or anything like that. During this time Urien also stuck around. He was more convinced than ever that we would end up back together now that Octavian seemed to be permanently out of the picture.
I tried to deny it at every turn but when the full moon hit and Octavian wasn't there to satisfy the hunger, I found myself wanting to call Urien. Before I let things get that far I used the drugs that knocked me out for a full 12 hours like I used to before Octavian came along. Over the three days of the full moon, Urien kept trying to tempt me into bed. The rational part of my brain said that I didn't owe Octavian anything. The part of me that had feelings for him couldn't justify jumping into bed with my ex.
I was in the middle of getting my shit together when Octavia showed back up to my office after the allotted 4 weeks. Apparently, Octavian hadn't checked in with her in over a week and she was sick of waiting for him to come back. She was recruiting me and Elfrida to go back up to Minocqua and drag her brother home even if she had to kill him to do it. I only agreed to go because I wanted to know what the hell his problem was and why he didn't think I was important enough to apologize to. Octavian Osther had some fucking explaining to do.
