"Please Sir! I beg you, don't expel me, this scholar ship is all I have!"
The young boy of 14 years old found himself in front of the dean's office, kneeling down with nothing left in him. He had long thrown away his pride, there wasn't any self-respect to guard his heart. He begged with what was left of his dignity.
"Throw him out." The dean said. And two guards immediately picked the struggling child and threw him out of the school -- he studied hard to get in.
Why? He thought to himself. It wasn't his fault. The moment he stepped inside the school. The students begun to mock him for how he looked. Of course, he was dirt poor but that didn't mean they should treat him like a sleaze bag.
The bento his mother made --after saving up for so many days -- they snatched it from him, made fun of it and tossed it away. The content of bento fell on the Dean's suit who then expelled him without hearing his part of the story. And even if he had heard, he would still favor the other students because they had cash in their pockets.
The young boy stayed there at the gate, waiting for the school to be over. And once, he spotted the car of the dean, he immediately dashed towards it. Not even minding if he got crushed under it.
The driver stopped the car when he saw the crying child, desperately begging for a second chance.
"Sir please, it wasn't my fault! I promise I will behave! I promise I will study hard! Please sir, what would I tell my mother! This scholar ship is all I have!"
The dean looked through his window, to the child with tears running lose like a dam.
"Sir, what should I do?" The driver asked, pitying the child.
"Tch. Ignore it." As cold as ice, he disregarded the child.
The car went pass the boy, who had lost everything in the blink of an eye. That day, he went home really late. He knew his mother would ask about his swollen eyes so he waited till it got better. Hours after the sunset, when he stepped inside the run-down apartment in the shabby part of the town, he noticed a 3-course meal placed on the table just for him.
Tears filled his eyes again, he knew with the money they had, he could not even imagine having such a meal, yet his mother had prepared one for him. There was tiny chit neatly placed on the table, asking,
'My Bo, how was your first day? Eat up okay? Tomorrow you have another big day out of many to come.'
He wrote underneath,' Thank you mother, today was a blast.' There was no way, he was going to confess what happened. Not to his mother, who works from dusk to dawn for him. He cried as he ate the delicious meal. He could bet his soul that his mother didn't eat a thing.
"Thank you for everything mother." He whispered in between his silent sobs. His mother was already asleep. Their condition wasn't always like that. But her husband died, left them in huge hospital bills and their everyday happy life turned into the life of beggars.
The next day, with new determination, the little boy again went to school to plead for a second chance but this time, they didn't even let him step inside the school gate. The students who studied there made fun of him, took pictures of him and called him names, but to boy the only thing that mattered was to get the scholar ship so he could become something notable to give his mother a better life.
He waited till evening when the dean came out in his car. The latter didn't even spare him a glance, treating him like a pest.
"Which stubborn fag gave birth to him?" The dean cursed, purposely loud for the boy to hear. The young boy stopped immediately, his knuckles turned white, while his body was trembling in anger. He could throw away the pride he had but he would not tolerate the insult directed at his mother. Before he could unleash a punch, a guard caught him. He struggled to be free to hit that arrogant person's face but the guard held him tight until the vehicle disappeared.
