Thomas was still stuck in the hospital in London.

Ada had to take over with Charlie and Ruby whilst their father was in the hospital recovering physically. His mental recovery was non-existent; it was only getting worse.

To begin with, he was doing okay other than trying to cope with the agonising pain he had been feeling.

He was still having the occasional nose bleeds but the doctors said that it was nothing to worry about since it was common for people with head injuries. Apparently he had hit his head pretty badly against the floor when he had fallen after being shot.

Ever since Ada had payed him a visit earlier in the week, Thomas had felt the darkness within him growing stronger at the news of Lucille being attacked and the loss of their baby.

Lucille was still in hospital except she was in the psychiatric ward after she had a full blown mental break down.

Grace appeared to him more often than not these days; almost every night. When she came that night it came as no surprise to Tommy to see her stood beside the hospital bed.

He could feel her hand holding his although he knew that she wasn't really here anymore.

'You're going to be okay, Tommy. Don't let that darkness get to you again. She needs you more than I do.'

Grace wanted nothing more than for Tommy to be with her forever but she knew that Lucille needed him more than anyone and so she wasn't selfish enough to ask her husband to join her like she had done the last time he was overcome by the darkness.

"I can't, Grace. I can't keep going. I don't have anyone else to defeat; I'm done."

The fact that Thomas needed someone else in his life to defeat and keep up his Peaky lifestyle not only upset Grace but it pissed her off beyond words.

'You do not need someone else to defeat, Thomas. You do not need this life; you choose it. Now choose something else; choose Lucille.'

"If I don't have the Peaky Blinders then I don't have anything. That's it."

'I have never known anyone as selfish as you, Thomas Shelby.' She forcefully ripped her hand from his grip. 'I want you to be happy but you don't deserve happiness when you're this stubborn and selfish.'

"Do you think I don't know that, eh? I don't deserve happiness, Grace! I never have and I never will!"

'You're going to lose everything, Tommy.' Grace was shaking her head disapprovingly at her husband. How could someone be so selfish? 'And you'll have no one to blame but yourself.'

Grace was gone after that. She didn't want to stick around and listen to anymore of Tommy's bullshit excuses.

The fact that he was willing to lose the woman he loved and completely ignore the fact that it was the consequences of his wrong doings that had ultimately ended the life of their child spoke volumes for Thomas Shelby's character.
