Chapter 1

"Courage is grace under pressure."-Ernest Hemmingway

---

I see the school up ahead and make my way into the parking lot.

"Charlieeeee!!!"

Is the first thing I hear as I find an empty spot and of course it's none other than my best friends, Josh and Mason.

"Well if it isn't little miss 'I'll be gone all summer.'" Josh and Mason pull me into a group hug as I get out of my car.

God I missed them, it's not my fault my family decided an impromptu vacation to Hawaii before the baby was born and since we got back way too late during the break, I didn't really get the chance to see my friends.

"Hello to my favourite boys in the world." I say as I hit both their backs to make them let go of me.

Mason laughs, "Now that's some of my favourite words to hear." Of course it is.

Now a quick rundown of my two best friends. They are obviously both guys, I have some girl friends; we are all part of this little 'group', as we call it, but I'm closest to these two idiots.

I've known Josh the longest. Since kindergarten actually. When I refused to eat the lunch Dad had made me and Josh offered an exchanging of our lunches.

He hasn't left my side since.

We went through all of middle school together and all those awkward teenage moments but when we entered high school Josh had homeroom with Mason, and the two of them became close real quick.

He quickly blended in with our little duo and our duo became a trio, we were like the three musketeers.

While Josh is captain of the soccer time Mason is part of the school choir, he's pretty good at guitar, piano, vocals and actually quite a few other instruments and I was a journalist for the school's newspaper.

They had asked me if I wanted to be editor but I had to refuse; I don't exactly have the authority for it plus I'm okay with the position I have anyway.

"So how was the holiday?" Mason asks as we make our way towards our lockers, which are conveniently next to each other.

I grin at them. "Well the plane ride wasn't as bad as I expected it to be and the weather was amazing, so I actually enjoyed myself a lot more than I thought I would."

I observe everyone flooding the corridor, from nervous freshman meeting for the first time to excited seniors seeing their friends that they failed to keep in contact with during the break.

I feel someone bump into me and turn seeing a boy who looks to be in a huge hurry despite it being still way too early for the bell, must be a freshman.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't look where I was going." He starts turning scarlet from embarrassment.

His quite cute actually with this sandy blonde hair and dimples.

"Don't even worry about it, it can happen to anyone." He seems relieved I didn't shout at him and smiles before turning and walking away, probably to his locker.

I turn to the guys. "Anyone know who that was?" We live in a pretty small town which means everyone practically knows everyone since birth, but I failed to recognize that kid, there was something familiar about him though.

Josh shakes his head but its Mason we both end up looking at.

"Apparently his new to the town, his whole family relocated here from California during the break." I swear there is not one thing this guy doesn't know about anyone, he's like the king of gossip.
