It was a scorching summer morning; the hottest of the year. The beaming sun shone down on Olivia, causing sweat to gradually trickle down her bony legs and full lips. She had just arrived back from her Geometry lesson; fresh tears still dripping down her dotted face from the experience. She tried to rid herself of the memories that plagued her but somehow her thoughts always drifted back to her eventful class....

It began just like any normal lesson; Ms Farenheit ferociously wrote the date on the matte blackboard in all 6500 languages. She always made sure to take extra time on chinese; and this was one of the many reasons that Olivia considered her a role model. She was smart and careful yet still kind and uniquely beautiful. Olivia had hoped to one day grow up to be just like her. She was quickly knocked out of her daydream in which she admired Ms Farenheit, by Leah sitting next to her; who began to crack her boiled egg on the grimy desk. Olivia's face contorted into one of disgust but was quickly masked with a crooked smile as she said to Leah,

"Hey, I suppose you missed breakfast then?," she let out a hearty laugh. Leah glared at Olivia, "No, actually I didn't!" she growled out before swallowing the egg whole, "I hate people who assume things about me", she continued, before bringing her egg back up her tight food pipe and devouring it all over again. Olivia quickly apologised before turning around and giving a slight wave to her long term crush; Davis. Davis Juan Ling Ling to be exact. He was the slickest korean boy in the entire school, and also a part of the cities winning mathletics team; Olivia just couldn't help falling for him. Hard and fast. Leah noticed Olivia's stare and turned around to see where her attention lay; when she saw it resided on the school's most golden asian she brought her egg back up and spat it right in Olivia's fanta orange hair. All of a sudden, Davis piped up "Ew, what's that smell?," his nose scrunched up in utter disgust as he directed his attention to the source of the stench. Olivia. Olivia's cheeks flushed in embarrassment "It's n-n-not what it l-looks like," she stuttered, but Davis only replied with a gag. Leah allowed a victorious grin to grace her face.

"What is ever so the matter, young ladies?" Ms Fahrenheit cooed from her position at the front. The wilted sunflower propped in her hair each day always reminded Olivia to smile. So she did. She allowed a smile to spread on her face, before taking a deep breath and forgetting the event's of the last few minutes. Who cared what Davis thought about her? Who cared if he gagged at the sight of her? The one thing that couldn't erase her mind was the troubled girl who she sat next to each and every day. It was at that point that Olivia made a promise. To herself but also to Leah; from that day forward she promised to be by her side through thick and thin. Through egg shell and bacon fat Leah would always be Olivia's number one, even if it meant salt would somehow permanently embellish itself on Olivia's body, causing her atopic dermatitis to flare up; but it was fine. Leah was worth it. She was worth every scar and bruise caused by the eczema. She was worth every tear.

Olivia glanced at Leah; her doe eyes softening and the lump in her throat disappearing at the sight of the disheveled girl; she couldn't help but feel sorry for her and wonder what trauma this girl must have suffered to turn out the way she has, "Nothing Ms, nothing at all," she said with a cheerful grin, and looked back down at her nulake textbook. But questions continued to rake her mind... Who made her the way she is today? Was Leah being mistreated at home? Neglected? Starved? She was determined to find out. No matter the cost.
