Change is never easy. When a routine you've had for the longest you can remember is suddenly broken or changed, it frustrates you. At least, for the nine-year-old boy named Jeon Jungkook, it frustrated him on another level. He was always accustomed to living with his mother, a single parent. His life circumstances were rather peculiar compared to other children his age. He had to learn sign language since pre-school for a better communication with his mother. He was okay with it. How could he not be? He thought his mother was more special than anyone; a kind soul who took care of him and protected him from harm.
His life was completely perfect to him, at least until to this day where he heard his mother's soft voice barely above a whisper (as he'd always hear it) when she said, "How would you... feel if I... dated someone?" It was a completely unexpected question he wasn't ready to answer as a nine-year-old. Truth be told, he had thought of the answer 'No'.
His mother gently pressed a soft kiss against his exposed forehead, thanks to the two pony tails she made of his raven hair. The wind rustled leafs around the garden of their house as it did to his thoughts where a sudden lightning stroke in his mind. Although she could read her son's lips if he said something, she always wanted him to use sign language so he could always remember it. The little boy quickly curled his fingers on both hands except for his thumbs and index fingers—in the shape of L's pointing the thumbs to each other and the index fingers forward—then shook his wrists three times until both thumbs pointed out to opposite sides with shaky eyes. "Aniyo!" he mouthed with a whine, clearly not wanting his mother to date someone. Everything was completely perfect, and he wanted it that way.
"Gguk-ah," she pouted, whispering so softly. She used raised her left hand and curled her fingers except the index finger and touched her temple with the finger twice. 'Why?' she signed to him. Although she could read her son's lips, she wanted him to continue using sign language.
