This is about the dangers of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can be minor or chronic but a lack or insufficient amount of sleep. It can severely affect brain function and make manageable tasks harder. About 51% of the world is sleep deprived and in 2006 a survey from the national sleep foundation stated that around 87% of teenagers were sleep deprived. This is just an outrageous number!!
Sleep deprivation can affect your immune system. After just one night with a lack of sleep it can decrease your anticancer immune cells- called natural killer cells- by 70%. As well as increasing your risk of chronic illness it can also affect recovery times for less serious ones. So, basically that is not good. Being ill isn't fun!!
If you get less than 6 hours of sleep it has been proven that you have a 200% increased risk of having a heart attack. This is due to the way your heart rate slows and blood pressure drops when you sleep almost rebooting your blood pressure. Without this your blood pressure could increase and cause issues like heart attacks and strokes. This has been proven by the clocks changing or daylight-saving time. When we lose one hour of sleep in spring- when the clocks change- there is a related 24% increase in heart attacks the next day. Again, not good. A heart attack isn't a fun way to die!!
Additionally, research has also shown that sleep deprivation messes with the brain cells ability to communicate with each other leading to a 'foggy brain' and temporary mental lapses. This causes an increase in accidents. Therefore, you could accidentally kill someone or youself. This is, again, not good!
Let's not forget about the hallucinations. You may be thinking 'oh that seems like fun' but I'm telling you it isn't. It causes confusion and even paranoia which is heightened by the sleep deprivation! Some hallucinations can be scary and stressful which isn't fun at all.
It can also caused mood changes. People tend to be grumpier. For some this is just their mood changes. People tend to be grumpier. For some this is just their natural mood, but joy is much better than being in a hump. It can also lead in difficulty concentrating. If you are in school or at work this is an unhelpful trait. Concentration is the path to everything, well a lot of things.
Basically, the point I'm trying to make is that not sleeping is bad. It creates arguments that could be avoided because everyone is in a grump. It makes you lose concentration with your schoolwork. It affects your memory. Most important is that it leads you to a premature death. Not a fun one either. Me, I like people. Not a fan of the whole death thing. So, please. Maddison? Someone? Have an early night once in a while!
