One-Shot: Evelyna's Story

Evelyna's Story

Ruslan Modankin stands beside his wife, Nikita Modankina in a half-underwater grotto in the early stages of the kingdom that would soon become known as Boltsdale. The Dallas Star legend is joined by John David Ilyachuk, Wayne MacNeil, Anthony Phillip Esposito and a group of other well-known retired Hockey Legend players. The youngest addition, Tuukka Virtanen, watches, before the birthing of the Modankin child begins.

Anthony Esposito sends sparkles about the room from his hockey stick's blade as a merman doctor grabs the red-headed baby girl from the woman and presents her to the room. "A gift from the stars above!"

Nikita takes her daughter from the doctor, smiling and mutters, "Hello. Hi there."

Ruslan leans over and grazes the baby's head. "She's beautiful, darling. She has your red hair and bright blue eyes."

The baby swings up and swats at a lightning charm on her mother's neck.

"You like my Lightning Bolt, Little One?" Nikita murmurs.

The baby giggles to which there is an awwww from the surrounding players. One of them, Wayne MacNeil glances away, looking toward the entrance of the grotto with concern.

"Wayne, there's nothing to worry about," John-David mutters. "No one can harm her. And just to make sure of that..." He swivels his hands around to create a dolphin-shaped seafoam from the water and then electrifies it with a dash of electricity from his hands. "She will have a special friend, Molniya. The dolphin-horse protector; dolphin in the water, horse for the land, should she require any sort of aid on either."

IIyachuk lowers his hand, where the construct is and holds it out toward the baby girl and mother. The little mer-human girl turns from swatting at the lightning bolt charm and punctures the water bubble that surrounds the construct, instantly awakening it. The seafoam dissolves and the live baby dolphin appears.

Molniya clicks twice and then swims forward and nuzzles the child's face.

Esposito chuckles at his friend's worry and the scene before him, before replying with, "Yes, that is correct. I have seen much of this child's future. She will one day discover her true love in the real world, a young blond ACHL star. I have bonded her with him and given her the powers of electricity. She is drawn to the lightning bolt because there is lightning flowing within her. However, she should be trained to use her powers right. Mods, you must care for her and train her. What is the name you have given her?"

Nikita and Ruslan share a look and then smile and look at Esposito, the chief Hockey Legend. "Evelyna Starikova."

"Welcome to KhokkeyZemli, Evelyna...you born of a purebred mer-human in your mother and a wonderful ACHL Legend, Ruslan Modankin, in your father. I know you will--" Esposito begins to say, before he is cut off by a snicker.

MacNeil dives behind IIyachuk, while Virtanen is rushed behind Dan Kariya and Stephen Yzerberg. Colin Williamson, Gordon Lowe, Marius Levasseur and Jaroslav Černý block Nikita, Evelyna and Ruslan as Anthony Esposito faces the entrance.

Al Bettman, a dark merman, leans against the rocky frame. "How precious is this...the Modankin's have a child and I wasn't invited..."

"I banned you to the ruins of Nicheta and Stradaniye!" Esposito snarls. "It's bad enough that you've taken over the ACHL as the Commissioner."

"Espo, I won fair and square," Bettman continues to sneer. "You all ousted me. And your response was to come at me by designing a stupid expansion team that is UNDER my ACHL? Silly. Foolish."

"The Orlando Thunder are not foolish, you will soon see!"

"They will suffer under my reign, Espo!!" Bettman brags. "Now, I would like to welcome the new daughter of the Modankin's, please?"
