When I was born I was with my mother by a dirty muddy field that had an open based and fenced in tight field.  I was with my mother, as soon as I was weaned I was taken and put in a field with other colts, young brutes they were indeed.  I did not care for them and they did not care for me. My master was an evil man but never ill-used me. He had a grey beard and was as tall as my mother. I was given no treats or any kindness. He did not care for us one bit further than to see that we had plenty to eat and shelter in the winter.  A foot path ran through our field and very often the Great boys passing through would fling rocks and stones to make us gallop.  I was never hit but one fine colt was badly hit cut in the face and would be a scar for life. We did not care for though boys but it made us wilder and a lot of us settled in our own minds that boys were our enemies. We galloped in the free meadows and had fun galloping up and down and chasing each other round an’ round then standing still under the shade of trees.
